Do you remember who first responded to a post of yours at DU?

I believe that in my initial posting I was finding humor in the economic prognositications of the whitehouse (two years ago) - in light of how ridiculous they were. No one was paying attention (as it often feels when one is first hanging out around here)... and one of my sarcastic one liners - garnered an appreciative cyber-guffaw and a welcome! Do you recall who first welcomed you into the DU fold... or responded and let you know that somebody actually was reading what you wrote?

I think I did a few go rounds with the (at the time) everpresent Mike Hersh, some short-timer who was the only person who stalked me on a couple of threads (that was icky), and PepperBelly - all within a single week! PepperBelly and I kept talking through the flames, though, and found common ground and a fond friendship.

my first thread "the bush admin = Fascist?" or soemthing like that... i posted the 14 qualifing factors of facisim and gave examples of each how bush qualified, i went to bed and checked it the next day and found like 4 'message deleted' things on it, i was kinda confused for my first post.

I happened to remember that I specifically wrote "This is my first post" in my first post, and I got lucky that Google appears to have archived that particular thread (it doesn't appear to do so with all old DU threads for some reason I don't understand).

So all I had to do was plug in

I had been just lurking, but then somebody made a post calling childless baby boomers selfish because they refused to have kids to pay their social security. I let that person have it, and lo and behold three or four people jumped in and told me to keep it up. So I did!

She'd been encouraging me to post for a while & I finally did & she caught it & guessed the screen name. If I remember, she simply wrote, "Hey, kainah, are you who I think you are?" I do remember a number of warm welcomes ... but that was back in the very early days, probably spring '01.

it was a GD troops are getting screwed thread and I cited a specific example I was aware of. I got jumped 5 ways to Sunday for being a freeper by a poster or two, but they were more responding to the general theme of the thread which had changed to can you support the troops and not suport the war.

Newyawker99 jumped in and welcomed me to DU and there has never been a bad day here since.

the General Discussion (before the split). I said something along the lines that I liked Dean but didn't care for DK. Nothing mean just my personal opinion that I didn't particularly like him.

I had my ass ripped open by about ten people who tore apart liking dean, laughed because I had a typo (pre spell checker), and basically all but said I wasn't a Democrat.


I found the Lounge a little later. Now I venture into the new GD. I occasionally end up in the 2004 GD just because I click on some post in the main room that is from there. I never go back to see responses I may have left though. They're vicious. :)
