Gen-xers, do you "date"?

I don't know many who date the old-school way. You know seeing more than one person at a time and just having casual fun. Anyone I know who does date usually keeps it exclusive from about date three. Why is that? Just another example of too much TV?

I'm 31 and I've been married for 12 years. Wayyyyy back though, I did date at the beginning of a relationship, then the ones that lasted longer evolved more into hanging out together with less formalities. Never dated more than one person at a time. Of course that was all 1990 and earlier, so I have no perspective at this point.

I'm like the grande pooh-bah of Generation Y - at 25 years of age - but I'm still Y. So I can't answer. :D

Generation Baby Boom is someone who is between the years of 1946 and 1964.

Generation X is someone who is between the years of 1965 and 1977.

Generation Y is someone who is between the years 1978 and 1994.

For those who are curious...Gen Xers will finally outnumber Baby Boobers in the year 2040.

Of course, by then the Gen Y crowd will already dwarf both of them and give the X and Y generations a near 75-25% share of the population.

That is what we'll be known for. We will succeed where the Boomers failed.

Of course, the only downside is that the Gen Y conservatives are even more ruthless and cunning than their Boomer counterparts.

But our sheer numbers and general liberal tilt of the country at the time the Y's come of age should make us an unstoppable progressive force in this country for years.

We're the media-saavy and supposedly, more socially conscious answer to our parents, basically.

I think that the serial monagamy that often occurrs before marriage among young adults is not a good thing for many people emotionally. I really wasn't ready to see someone exclusively after the first couple dates. Whenever a "relationship" ended for me I was very upset even if it had been fairly short. If I had been dating instead of joined at the hip with someone who I only new more than casually for only a few weeks, there would be no reason to be upset. Even with my husband, I felt that things were getting too serious too fast. I did the exclusive things because that is what the guy wanted. I think that it would have been fun to date, but the culture on campus was exclusive right away or casual "hookups".

I'm a guy...and for me, getting physical was more important. I'll
admit it...
But, as I realized that I had "found" the gal that I felt
"comfortable" with I quickly became monogamous. But then again...she
"lassoed" me in. :D

My last date I took a girl I knew to a bar and she got wasted. She wanted to go to another bar across the street from where we were at.

She didn't look and just crossed staggering. I saw a car coming so I got in front of it hoping it would see me. It didn't apparently. When it got close I just grabbed her and wrapped her up in front of me with my back turned to the car.

Next thing I heard was screeching brakes and when I turned around the car was less than a foot from us. Thought it was curtains for me.

Not really psychologicly ready to date again just yet. I've been pickin the wrong ones apparently.

I would still date exclusively after date 3. I'm not sure why, but sometimes its nice to just have someone on the side, lol.
