Wasn't the point of DU to have a common ground with eachother?
Where the hell are we now, I mean really? When we need eachother the most, we're falling apart! I've been soured out of GD with all the bickering among us. I remember DU used to be so different. I'm sorry to say this DU isn't the same place I came to know and love a year and a half ago- it's different now and just doesn't have the same appeal it did. The constant flaming and itching at eachother is driving me crazy. I've noticed the same old bad ties have been severed once again, and once again it upsets me. People used to take the time to explain their viewpoints, people used to read through and with an open mind what others were saying. I feel as though (and I said this once before to another DUer earlier tonight) that some of you have turned into robots, you repeat without listening, your hearts are cold and your minds are rusty.

Maggie

6. Kucinich sucks
Just kidding!! All the candidates are great!

I've only been here since March, I think, and I have noticed a trend toward more internal battling. I'm a Dean guy now, but I'm still looking at other candidates. I'm not willing to trash any other candidate to build my guy up. I feel positive about all of the candidates, pretty much (except Lieberman, I confess), and a little negative about all of them in their own ways (including Dean).

The discord owes mostly to the unsettled nomination. I don't understand all the bitter animosity between Dean people and Kerry people, especially--though I've felt some toward Greens, I'm ashamed to say, and toward DLC defenders. It would be loverly if we didn't let the wedge issues work their dividing wonders on us.

2. Walk away from GD for a while
This happens from time to time. The animals get hungry for red meat. Any red meat will do after a while. :)

3. You're right, Will.
Of course, I've been here almost two years, it's quite mind-blowing how much it has changed around here.

4. What was it like in the before time
Ive been here since early winter 2002 but I was shy then and I really took off last fall. You saw where Zack said he was leaving for a while? thats sad he's always been a great friend to me and I know you.

7. Just... different.
I can't explain it much, but before it seemed we were moving as one group with diversity, now it seems like we are moving apart because of our diversity. If that makes sense.

Zack's leaving and I think it's great. It doesn't make me sad because I talk to him anyway. He's a great person and as for the wars he gets into in GD, I'd never have a thick enough skin for them. Yet he is also always the one being civil, even if the other person is not.

8. It was smaller, but no less raucous
Wanna know why a lot of 'old-timers' roll their eyes and flee when a Green-Dem flamer starts up? It's because they have been around from the beginning. Ditto the ongoing battle between centrists, progressives, left-liberals, and all the other subgroups that forget from time to time that they are screaming at people who agree with 95% of what they agree with. That's been her since I've been here, over two years now.

There were less people doing it, but it happened all the same. It happened big-time before the midterms. It will continue until the election and beyond. Come back in 50 years and you'll find the same natural allies kicking the shit out of each other on an hourly basis.

Selah.

9. It did happen then... but not as much as now.
Sure it happened, but I think for the most part there were mostly people trying to make a difference in anyway possible. Maybe I'm overglorifying the "good old days" a bit, or maybe the thrill of a new forum was what I remember, but it is different and has changed since then.

21. My Sentiments Exactly
I've been here since the 2nd month of DU, and this is a recurring theme. I read the threads, but generally stay out of them. They do tend to be too nasty in tone.

I've gotten involved, at times, with some of the more contentious issues, and taken my share of heat, but that's ok. I can take it.

I guess if it gets too hot, one should step away from the fire for a while. Once the wounds are healed, most come back around. That only seems logical and right.

But, while it's a little heated right now, it will calm down in a bit, then will heat back up, cool back down, heat back up, cool back down, heat . . .

5. I know what you're sayin
my main appeal to this place was the fact that the people here (like yourself) were friendly and nice and caring. Now...it seems every thread in GD is flame bait, and everyone bickers. I've even seen it in the Lounge, where I spend pretty much all my time. I can't help but agree that the basis of this place is unity, and I see none. Let's lighten up, people...

11. I could not agree with you more.
Everything some days seems to be open ended, enticing people to bite, just to slam back at them.

I find myself actually getting upset to the point I can't sleep. It's unfortunate, but hopefully this too, shall pass.

I'd hate to live up to my name.

12. I'm a newbie here...
And I've always been nice to other posters. I've always tried to be polite ( except when describing our current regime!)

I'm a guy, single, straight, love cats (have two), I am not a robot, I definitely do not repeat without listening, my heart is warm, not cold, my mind might have suffered from rustiness at some prior point in time but definitely not NOW.

I just joined a couple of weeks ago and haven't even begun to discern candidates for the election....can not people such as I be given some slack? If not, what purpose would you have my ilk serve?

Really, this is just incongrous to me, and I always thought myself logical and intelligent, but not all-knowing...

Can you help me or am I just a lost cause ?

22. Sort Of Like Conservatives, Huh?
Whining and wishing for good old days that never existed is the hallmark of the entire U.S. conservative movement since the late 70's.

Was that to which you were referring?
