Just now reading the Al Franken book...
I got Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them for X-mas from my wife. What a great read. I have a smile on my face every time I pick it up. Even though most of it is true and should make me ridiculously angry, Al has such a good sense of humor and injects enough jokery and silly commentary in there that I can't stay angry for long.

I also got Stupid White Men, but something tells me the humor won't be as prevalent in that one which is why I wanted to start the year off on a more positive note by reading the Franken book first.

3. Exactly.....Al is 60% humor 40% political
More tends to be 60% political 40% humor.

I wanted to err on the side of humor to start the new year. I have the distinct feeling I'm going to need humor to get through this year.

6. Mostly enraging
I too read it over the break, and while it had some witty writing and funny stuff (esp. the Operation Chickenhawk chapter), it mostly enraged me: the bush* misadministration's ignoring of the terror threat as warned by the outgoing Clinton people, the Wellstone memorial fabrications, the "election" 2000 media goring, etc.

9. I've read it too and I am in total agreement with you
>>the bush* misadministration's ignoring of the terror threat as warned by the outgoing Clinton people, the Wellstone memorial fabrications, the "election" 2000 media goring<<
In particular, the way the right winger media hacks totally misrepresented the Wellstone Memorial.
It's a very good read. I enjoyed Michael Moore's Stupid White Men as well. I am reading Molly Ivin's Bushwhacked now and planning to read Jim Hightower's book next.

8. I'll finish "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" tonight.
Al Franken has a unique ability to make a point stick. Keep it up, Al!

10. Franken book on CD is funny too
A co-worker suggested buying Lying Liars...on CD, and I swear it's been a hoot. I might read the book, but to hear Franken himself tell the stories is even better.

However, one touching section of the book was about Franken talking about how the late Sen. Wellstone gave him comforting advice while Franken was dealing with his mother, who ended up in a residential home. Franken's mom passed away recently, and I couldn't help but to remember that section of the book.

12. My hubby's reading it
Within 60 seconds of picking it up, he is laughing and guffawing, and reading em funny bits. Come to think of it, I may not have to read it myself, I will have heard it all!
