Some mellow, buzzed thoughts on this New Year's Eve

I hanged out with a life long friend this New Year's Eve and drank some beer and listened to rock-n-roll. We went outside at midnight and listened for the gun shots and looked at the amateur fireworks displays. Forgive me if I ramble because I'm starting to write this without knowing where I'm going to go with it. All I know is that I had a special feeling tonight.

As I looked up through the clear sky at the moon above I found my mind drifting to thoughts of the esoteric and the occult. I have a $500 book sitting at the house that I've owned for five years and have never read. I was pretty much interested in the investment value of the book when I bought it and not so much interested in the content of it.

I read the preface of the book the other night and it spoke of man not really being interested in the spiritual aspects of life but being more concerned with the material aspects- especially in our culture.

I've been chasing money for so long that it is probably a sin. I thought if only I had enough money to live free of the system then I would be a happy person at last. I realized tonight that I will probably never be a person who is free of financial worries. I realized tonight that I should probably just give up on trying to become independently wealthy.

I'm still going to pay my bills, but I resolve from this New Year on to become a person who is dedicated to making peace with myself and to everyone else who I cross paths with.
