I've been sick as a dog since the day after Christmas. Fever, really bad swollen sore throat, congestion, sinus junk, achy joints, general fatigue and crud. Well, I went to the doctor and tested negative for strep. Was told to drink plenty of liquids and rest. I took the advice and shots of Nyquil before retiring at night. Still my throat has been just killing me and the congestion just has lingered to the point my chest has been hurting. Last night I was sitting with my box of Puffs on the couch when my uncle called.
He sez, "You sound terrible."
I sez, "I feel terrible." I relate my list of ailments.
He sez, "You need a shot of Jim Beam."
I sez, "I feel too sick to drink."
He repeats, "You need a shot of Jim Beam."
After hanging up, I passed Uncle's comments on to my hubby, who notes that it is New Year's Eve and I should drink to the New Year.
I sez, "The only thing I'm drinking is Niquil." My stomach balled up in an anticipatory knot at the thought. I sighed in exhaustion.
A half-hour later, I go to the kitchen. Jim Beam bottle is in the uppper cupboard so I think, "What the heck?" Couldn't hurt. I couldn't possibly feel any worse than I did at the moment. I knocked back a shot.
My throat is not sore this morning. Some will tell me that whatever had run its course, but for now I'm convinced that that Jim Beam killed any crud critters in my throat. Now, as for the head cold stuff, I might just have to snort some tonight.
