I purchased a book (supposedly a US Military manual) called "Improvised Munitions Handbook." It was at a used bookstore, and I thought it was kind of interesting, maybe due to my chemist background.

I guess I lost it in one of my moves, as I haven't seen it in years.

Unfortunately--or fortunately, depending on your opinion of such things--the Army no longer lets you sing cadences about napalm.

And I think they cut that shit out right after the 311th MI ran past 101st Airborne Division headquarters on the 1983 Division Run singing "napalm, napalm, sticks like glue / napalm sticks to kids, ooh!"

I was also in the formation that was responsible for the abolition of dirty cadence worldwide. This was at Fort Devens, MA, in 1982. We had a real good cadence caller in our class, and his favorite cadence was "Yo Ho Columbo." All about Christopher Columbus discovering the new world. You know, a good patriotic cadence. Among its stanzas were:

The queen, she gave three sailing ships
Each one a triple decker
The queen, she waved her handkerchief
Columbo waved his pecker.

Yo Ho Columbo!
His balls were big and round-o
That hypothetical, masturbatin'
Son of a bitch Columbo!

The cabin boy, the cabin boy

And circumcised the skipper.

Unfortunately, he chose to sing this cadence while we were marching past the elementary school...at recess...and all the children heard us.

What's worse is that someone has sanitized that cadence. I got to Fort Drum and the first formation I was in, they sang the bowdlerized, safe-for-children's-ears version of that song. So...as a noncommissioned officer in the United States Army who believes that all soldiers should know where they came from, I felt duty bound to teach them the real words. :evilgrin:
