What things in your life are you SURE will be the same in 2007 as they were in 2006?

In utterly random order:

1) I'll make some friends at DU.

2) Some Duers will dislike me.

3) Come Spring, I'll spend almost every evening out on the screen porch, and do so late into the Fall.

4) I still won't answer the phone after 8 at night unless it's someone I REALLY want to talk to.

5) Continuing with the "Fun With Caller ID" theme, I'll continue to torture telemarketers by picking up the phone and setting the handset down on the table for five minutes when they call.

6) I STILL won't get my family to understand the simple concept that, as a former musician, I don't have the greatest hearing. Therefore, if I can't SEE someone, I probably can't HEAR him or her. In other words, don't talk to me unless you're in the same room as I am! Never happen. Mrs R is particularly obtuse about this one; she always says, "Well, I can hear you, how come you can't hear me?"

7) I STILL will refuse to "update" to Macintosh System X.

8) I'll love Mrs R and the boys and the pets. I'll still be the luckiest son of a bitch on the planet, just for having them around.

9) My shoulder will hurt, and my back and knee and hip will periodically light off on me. But I'm not going to have any of them fixed, because a) the shoulder can't be fixed, and b) I'm never letting a damn doctor cut on me again.

10) We'll have quite a few visitors, and enjoy having them, but it will never feel like we've had enough visitors.

Hubby will still fall asleep on the sofa watching movies.
My fav baseball team the AZ Diamondbacks will still suck.
I'll be driving the same car and that's ok because I like it.
I'll still be chubby. Oh well.
I still won't have my craft room cleaned out. I keep promising I'll do it but... well...

I'll still be saying that I really will get the office/computer room cleaned up.
I'll still be wishing to have the crappy 70's paneling removed from the living room walls.
I'll still be driving my hubby for treatment in Berkeley.
I'll still be having my blood pressure spike every time I see any of the Nasty WhiteHouse bunch.
I'll still be loving my daughter, husband, sister & her hubby, as well as all of my friends.
I'll still be addicted to books and DU.
I'll still pause and appreciate every Smokey Robinson song I catch randomly on the radio.
And every day I will rise and shine with the renewed hope of really starting to eat correctly and get to the gym on a regular basis.

10. No need to apologize Redstone ....

I've had a few concussions myself - plus factoring in the aging process surely doesn't help any.
My husband has been taking chemo treatments for quite some time. We go to the Alta Bates Cancer Ctr. in Berkeley. Fortunately, now he's been given a bit of a break right now - we probably won't be starting treatment again for a couple of months. This past December made his 9 yr. mark since diagnosis. Now we're starting on year 10. But, he does get out to golf occasionally and he seems to be enjoying himself.
We just take it one day at a time - like everyone else.


Your posts about your family are always very sweet. It's nice to hear someone appreciate what they have.

11. I am so GODDAMN lucky. 23 years since an MS diagnosis, with NO treatment, and

holding remission with just a bit (though a bit more lately) of balance problems, and a fair deal of heat intolerance. Well, there IS the occasional "episode," but what the hell.

Nine years? That's a damn good run, and I wish him the best and salute him for the fortitude to go through it all.

And, of course, I salute you for being there for him and not giving up. I'm sure it's not easy for you.

17. In some ways - we all have our 'crosses' to bear.

Good luck to you with your battle. My aunt has been diagnosed for years with MS as well - and so far it hasn't gotten her down. Your wife and kids are a great support system for you also. It's nice to know you have loved ones around when you need them.

9. No matter what happens in 2007

I will not gain or lose any weight but stay right where I am
I will continue to expand my social circle not only here on DU but IRL, as I've been doing for the last several months
I will continue improving my skills as a pianist
I will love my children and tell them this at least once a day
I will learn how to do at least one new thing as has been my habit since I was a teenager
I will mope and gripe about my love life and it will continue to amount to nothing :P
I will grow roses, tomatoes and chili peppers


There are lots more, but these are the important ones.

you just walked in from the garden.

and the store-bought ones are awful! Homegrown tomatoes are a top priority.

18. Then we have something in common. I'll pay absurd prices, $4 per pound if necessary,

to get those "uglyripe" tomatoes they grow in the hothouses, during the winter. Or the hydroponic ones they fly over from Holland.

Not CLOSE to the ones from my garden, but they do fill a need.

got to be careful with the peppers ouch! Food processing hot peppers leaves a mist of pepper oil (capsacin) and it can get in your eyes, breathe it in, etc.

Rubber gloves for really hot peppers like habaneros or jalepenos.

Chili peppers, not usually real hot, but I've had some that were.

What kind of tomatoes grow well there?

23. Indeterminate varieties, because the determinates, which

are often early, tend to get blight. If you start your own, use black plastic and mulch and have good soil, anything that ripens in eighty days or less should do well (we have cool nights, which slows down the growth).

I used to live in twenty-one acres, three of which were my vegetable garden. Yes I made salsa, a few varieties. I grew tomatillos too... cilantro and epazote in the herb garden. I also grew and prepared my own horseradish. I loved it but the country was lonely for me, and the bugs made it impossible to be outside without wearing chemicals and/or protective clothing.

Some day when I move back west I will do it all again.
