Update on my invisible-cat problem
She is no longer an invisible cat.

New problem: She really, really likes being petted on the head. She really hates being petted on the body. If you pet her rotten little black head continuously, she'll be your best friend. Fuck up and pet her body, she hisses at you, whacks you real hard on the hand with her paw (claws out, of course), then goes back to being your best friend as soon as you start petting her rotten little head again.

This is in diametrical opposition to my brown cat Hormel, who will hiss at you if you pet her head. (However, Hormel won't claw you in the hand if you forget.)

1. She still feels
as though she is in foreign territory. Just pet her little head for a long time. Eventually she will let you pet her back. Give her more time to feel safe and secure in her new home. She is feeling doubtful now. She'll come around as long as you show her gentle kindness.

2. The woman who owned her for 14 years couldn't pet her back either
This is just a grade-A evil cat.

6. So just don't pet her back
She doesn't like that; it doesn't make her evil. Surely YOU have things you like and don't like.

3. Some cats have issues.
I have 3 cats. One can only be petted on the head. The other can only be petted on the back and bellie. And the third doesn't care where you pet her as long as you never, ever make any effort to pick her up.

4. I had a cat that would
never, ever let you touch her anywhere but her head. Even then, when she had enough of that she would swat you away. She was a bitch. Lived a long time too. Beautiful white long-haired cat, but you couldn't brush her so she looked a mess all the time. Even the vet told my mom not to bother bringing her in once she hit a certain age, because of the damage she would do to the poor guy. lol.

5. Evita was an invisible cat
Eventually they'll warm up to you. For Evita, she doesn't mind being pet as long as she is on the back of the sofa and you're sitting on the sofa pretty much facing away from her. Just try looking into her eyes will give you the most evilest of glances.

But at least I get to pet her!

7. If you were a mad scientist you could swap her head with Hormel's.
Then you'd have one cat you could pet anywhere and another cat you couldn't pet at all.

8. You mean, if I was a CRAZY scientist
Hormel got her name from being so ugly I have to tie a pork chop around her neck to get the other cats to play with her. Which explains why she's named after a pork company.

9. sweetie pie my cat was schizoid that way.
she was such a love -- she half feral when she figured out she needed to accept my friendship and lifewould be better.
even with the big dog.

she was so tiny --

but if you tried to pet her -- you'd pull back a stump.

10. I adopted a feral kitten a few years ago. She's very lovable now
and enjoys being petted on her head and back, but don't try to touch her belly. She curls up around your hand and goes into attack mode. Cats have their preferences and don't mind letting you know what they are.

11. I adopted a recently spayed male when he was two years old. At first

he didn't let me pet his back. Now..that is allowed. He has always been fine with being petted on the head. We are working on the stomach now. But sometimes..when he gets annoyed..he looses control and bites and scratches. I'm not even touching him at all when it happens. It is just the way he is. He is so loving most of the time..I forgive him..and throw a pillow at him when he begins to get annoyed and his tail wags. Then he goes away for a bit..and comes back ... always, always in a better mood.
