I just ran over a cat with my car...I feel TERRIBLE!
She was running much to fast and I didn't see her until it was too late. It was terrible, and I feel terrible.
Dear kitty: I'm sorry to deprive you of your life. I just hope you didn't have any kittens that you were trying to run home to feed.

we once hit and killed an egret, no way to avoid it, with the sudden swarm of birds that exploded in front of the road, it was probably a quarter of a century ago and i still think of it and feel bad about it

my poor dad once hit a robin, the damn thing suicided itself on the windshield, v. upsetting

8. I'm so sorry. I've hit two birds in my life, but no other animals--yet.
Once hit a pheasant that was on Interstate 43 outside Milwaukee. Actually, the car in front of me hit it, and I didn't see it until came up on it. It was still flapping its wings, trying to move, but all lanes were full of traffic and I couldn't avoid it. I felt awful. Stopped at the next rest area to regain my composure, and say a little prayer.

The other was a blackbird, the kind that sit in flocks on the road, and you assume they'll move in time as the car approaches. Well, this one didn't, and I could feel my tire roll over it. Again, very upsetting. Now I slow down for birds in the road. Which sometimes pisses off drivers behind me.

I am so sorry this happened. I know you feel terrible. It says a lot for you that you're upset. Lots of people do this and don't give it another thought.

You're a good soul.

11. Let's hope the little dear died instantly. Did you stop to see if
the cat was really dead? If you remember what it looked like, you might want to notify the local animal control to advise them. Someone might be looking for their cat.

a cat saw us, got scared and darted in front of an oncoming car :/

16. I'll try and make some of you feel better
A few years ago, I was coming down a side street when a dog ran in front of my truck. I slammed on the brakes but hit the dog. The owners were chasing the dog, trying to catch him. He wasn't hurt, just scared. :)

17. I am so sorry that happend to you
I had a lil kitten I brought home about 15 years ago, and stupid lil cat just had to cross the street and was killed right outside my home early in the morning. I was still asleep and never heard anything.

My mom also ran over a stray dog once but did not kill it when I was a kid. oh my god, I still have nightmares, I remember screaming and crying listening to the dog yelp. It was horrible. It was an accident as yours was, RIP babies.

20. I'm so sorry YRD!!
I was with my Mom driving many years ago
when the same thing happened to us.

It's horrible- the feeling is indescribable,
especially if you are a good, humane, caring
person like you are!!

But--- it was an accident.
A terrible accident that you could not help or stop.

Give yourself a break and remind yourself of all the
good things you do, here on our planet!!

Their fault.

24. What if the cat had run out of it's home
And was lost? What if it were a feral cat? Accusing the cat's supposed owners of being negligent doesn't make sense unless you know for sure the circumstances. Circumstances which haven't been revealed on this thread. From reading this thread, we don't even know if the cat was even taking to a vet, much less knowing how the owners treated it.

I see dozens of missing cat posters daily. Cats are clever, they run out of front doors all the time. My friend's cat chewed on the window screen until it made a hole large enough to escape through. Didn't your family just lose a cat? How would you feel if some random stranger decided it was your fault it was killed?
