So if Ohio State loses next Monday
And Boise State keeps playing like this, I'm voting for Boise State as national champions.

Not that my vote counts.

36. I already lost $100 betting that Florida wouldn't make it to the championship...
and that Michigan would play Ohio State again.

After that, I will never doubt the Gators again. I've got mad money on this game, plus 7.5 points.

GO GATORS!!!!!

One final Go Blue! for the year and another sad excuse for a bowl game.

In any other sport, if one team wins all their games and nobody else does, they win the league.

Nobody looked into the Dolphins' strength of schedule before awarding them the Superbowl trophy after the '72 season.

12. Plus, Oklahoma was a top tier team.
They were top ten, they won the Big 12 title, and although their record shows two losses, they really only lost one game before last night. And that was against the number 2 ranked team in the nation--Texas. And they barely lost that one. So Boise State beating them is a big deal. When Tulane went undefeated a few years back, I could understand the argument that they hadn't beaten anyone big. But they can't say that about Boise State now.

31. Not really ...

OU truly lost to Texas and Boise State, and while they lost to Texas, it was Boise State that truly dismantled them. The Oregon game was a farce.

But I won't belabor the point.

Boise State is the real deal. I had a thought while watching the game that the Boise State coaching staff had done its research very well. OU didn't just get outplayed; they got out-coached, and that's saying something. Some of the plays they ran looked suspiciously like plays I had seen ... elsewhere. Talking about the game with friends of mine who follow OU football religiously, one of them mentioned the same thing, and then everyone in the conversation started focusing on it. Only a couple of teams have regularly given OU fits in the last 6 or 7 years (and by "fits" I mean, win or lose, consistently force OU to dig down deep.) It's like they are inside Stoops' head and have some instinctual knowledge of what play will work, if their players execute. OSU is the major example. OU has beaten them under Stoops more than they've lost, but beginning in 2000, OU's championship year, the OSU game has regularly been a wild-card.

Boise State seemed to have that same instinctual knowledge, and *their* players executed almost to perfection. That last play they ran for the 2-point conversion that won them the game? OU has run the same play, with slight modifications, but basically the same. It won them a close game several years ago, and the talking heads all talked about the genius of it, which even being a fan I thought was rather over-stated. It's a simple to conceive play, harder to execute, and even harder against a talented defense with a good coach. Boise State pulled it off to perfection.

The only reason OU ever had a shot at this game was because Boise State's perfection broke down for a mere two or three minutes of game time. What OU was able to do in those two or three minutes indicates the magnitude of what Boise State accomplished. They prevented that from happening for most of the game, and unlike other opponents OU has faced, didn't fold in half and die when they did make a mistake.

They deserve every bit of credit they're being given and, imo.

32. Agreed
That game wasn't really as close as the score indicated. OU is a team that can really make you pay for any mistakes, without those couple of Boise gaffes the final could have been more like 35-13. But, then, it wouldn't have been the classic it was.

11. GO GATORS!!!!!!!
Though, admittedly, Boise State was pretty convincing against Oklahoma, at least in the first half. But they flamed out in the fourth quarter and barely limped by after having a 21-point lead at one point (or was it even higher? I can't recall).

In any case, if the Gators beat Ohio State, they're the champs. Period. Gators rule. All others must therefore, ipso facto, drool. ;)

The problem is that that school that's been playing I-A football for ten whole years, the college equivalent of an expansion team, ended up in the WAC -- thereby consigning UH to perpetual Washington Generals status. :grr: Thanks for nothing, Choke-lahoma!

28. Boise's trending Democratic
Boise voters just gave pink slips to 5 incumbent GOP state legislators, giving Dems a 12-3 advantage in the city. Also voted down in Boise was the anti-gay marriage amendment and a scheme to relocate a 10 Commandments monument back to Julia Davis Park. Statewide its still another matter, but Boise seems to be getting bluer with each election cycle. Of course, there's that blue turf, and the awesome BSU team that plays there!!

17. I have not yet determined which is more unbearable...
a) the obnoxious chest-thumping of Buckeye Nation (should An Ohio St U win), or

b) the combined obnoxious whining of Buckeye Nation and the 5 or so Boise State fans, combined with another round of bellyaching from the jock media about the lack of a playoff (in the event Fla. wins).

26. That's why we need a playoff
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 10:38 PM by pokerfan
With at least one team from each conference, all eleven (not just the six BCS conferences). Add a couple of at large bids to round out the field to 16. Play the first three rounds in December (like all the other NCAA divisions do) and have the championship game on NYD.

The way it's set up right now, there is no way a non-BCS will ever make it to the NC game. I'm no fan of BYU but they did win a "championship" twenty years ago. That can't happen with the BCS.

30. Have you been drinking the ESPN Kool-Aid?
Jobycom, I take it that you don't watch much college football. And you probably watch even less SEC college football.

LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas would have slaughtered Boise State in a Bowl Game.

Boise State is undefeated for one reason: this year they didn't play any ranked teams, or teams with winning records, or teams that send players to the NFL. They struggled against Hawaii, San Jose State, and Wyoming, teams that rarely send players to the NFL, and have no reputation as winning programs. Boise State is probably the 12th best team in the country, behind Texas, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Louisville, Notre Dame, LSU, Auburn, Wisconsin, Florida, and West Virginia.

Last week, everyone was saying Oklahoma would slaughter Boise State in a bowl game. Look how that turned out.

This is why real sports have playoffs, instead of allowing a bunch of coaches and computers to make assumptions about who would have beaten whom. :)

USC trounced Michigan. Michigan only lost to Ohio State by 3 points. Therefore......

Boise State should be National Champs.
