I Hate Benadryl
took it for my nose

Now I'm getting sleepy but must not fall asleep

Help me stay awake and remind me not to take Benadryl again unless I take it before bed. Well this is before bed, but I didn't plan on going to bed this soon.

you know what I mean

I really love DU and the lounge lizards and all the best.

Let's start some trouble on this thread, not big trouble, but just a little trouble!

3. Diphenhydramine.
It's the antihistamine in Benadryl, and is also the active ingredient in over the counter sleep aids like Sominex. :D

6. Same with posting on Ambien.
I usually take my Ambien just before going to bed and then watch TV while it takes effect. Other times, however, I've taken it about 20-30 minutes before I go to bed, and posting on Ambien is just not good. Actually, I tend to go online shopping in that case. Fortunately, I've never followed through on any purchases - one time while shopping on Ambien, I put $500 worth of stuff in my shopping cart at Pottery Barn! I discovered it the next day, shook my head, and emptied it out. I should probably delete my shopping links.

And no, I'm not on Ambien right now. :P

They need to emphasize that more on the labels.

40. My husband found me asleep at my desk one night about 11:00.
He was pissed.

Now he asks me every night, "Did you take an Ambien?" and if I'm still downstairs he insists on accompanying me upstairs so I don't fall down. It does take about 20 minutes to hit me, but I lose track of time on it and it's definitely stupid not to go right to bed.

That's what it's for, sort of.

But yet, they banned ephedra. How sweet of them.

Anyone want to buy a house that was completely gutted out. When they did it they found syringes and such shit behind the walls.

Now it's a lovely 2 story house in a lovely older neighborhood and it's for sale.

36. There Was A Day Redstone When I Could Have Kept Up With You
and then some

since I quit drinking I have lost my tolerance to a lot of things

Although when I've had to have pain meds like Demerol for having my esophagus dilated they have to give me a pretty hefty dose I guess, I know they have to put me on oxygen because it depresses my respirations so much

but I admit to being a light weight with Benadryl

I also take some prescription meds which may interact with the benadryl, I hadn't thought of that but I bet that is a factor because I'm getting a little dizzy even LOL

41. Not Unless It Is A Problem For You!
I know I wouldn't have if it hadn't become a problem for me

I liked it too much!

but it quit liking me I guess.

It's been a long time since I did drink.

I don't know that there is really any correlation between not drinking and my lowered tolerance for some things.

I remember being a kid with hives and taking Benadryl and I'd fall asleep wherever I was at.

So i may have just always been a Benadryl lightweight

however, like I said I could put a lot of things away in my day. And still be wide awake and looking for the party!

48. I'm actually with you on this one. I'm allergic to bee stings, but if it's just a small wasp
or something, I don't have to shoot myself up with the Epipen and go to the hospital.

300 mg of Benadryl will keep me from going into anaphylactic shock, but it DOES force me to take an immediate nap.

Sleep well.

31. My mom had a bad reaction to benadryl once...
...this was just before she was diagnosed with liver disease. She had some kidney stones pulverized. They gave her Benadryl for itching afterwards. She got drowsy and wouldn't wake up. We'd get her semi-lucid and she'd drift away again. She had to go to the hospital. Scared the shit out of me, her designated driver.

You might have akasthesia from your Zoloft.

that is a minor side effect that makes you feel like you can't stay still

Might need another med, or at least to discuss it with your doc.

After the fiasco with my prescription while on vacation, I'm dumping that doc. I'm going to get a psychiatrist referral from my therapist. They are much more knowledgeable with anti-depressants than a GP, of course. Maybe he'll switch me to something that actually works! Hey, that's a novel idea.

Didn't I say I was going to bed? zzzzzzz

55. I Said I Was Too About 2 Hours Ago I Think
antidepressants are quirky things and people can have some different reactions.

I tried Zoloft and was swinging from the chandaliers (well not literally) I couldn't stop talking, cutting up, I was a riot, but I was not in control which freaked me the hell out.

I ended up seeing a psychiatrist because my GP said he couldn't prescribe for me after that.

I've been on several different things, but the deal is that I have anxiety more than depression and it's been a bugger to find anything that really helped.

I'm on Paxil and Clonazepam now, which is okay, it works most of the time, but I wish I felt better without anything.

That was the controlled substance they gave me such shit about calling in over the phone. Fucking HMO, told me to go to urgent care because the withdrawals would be very bad...no shit.

I wish I didn't have to take any meds either, but sometimes you just don't have a choice.

57. Yeah, I Quit All My Meds Several Years Ago
for about 3 months

then I ended up in the hospital convinced I was dying of cancer- crazy shit - my mother was dying of cancer which probably was what triggered this, but I drove my GP crazy I think. He was glad to refer me to a shrink and get me straightened out which took a little while and some other meds along with this.

Several years now with the same meds. Don't know if they'll work forever, or if I'll need them forever.

But I ain't quitting them on my own again like that!

58. I must be strange
I don't get sleepy on Benadryl.

Somebody mentioned passing out quickly on Ambien. I took that for a while and it wasn't real strong.

And now the Lunesta ads with the damn dayglo butterflies say you should go to bed within 30 minutes, which I guess assumes that most people will get drowsy within that time.

I take it at 7 pm, about midnight I get sleepy.

Beats me!!
