I offer this hearty "screw you" to someone at Continental Airlines!
First off see here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x6010627

Now, when we get to the airport we find a LONG line at the counter (not Continental). At the end of the line is a very nice woman who tells Madrone that her flight back home is, well, inncomplete. In fact, the last half of her flight home was deleted by someone at Continental Airlines. How'd that happen? Well, she flew down on Continental. Her neighbor surprised her by paying to upgrade her flights on Continental to 1st class. That was VERY nice. However, someone at Continental (according to airline #2) messed up the return trip which was NOT booked on Continental. So, the upshot is, she had to BUY a ticket (at a HUGH!!11!!1 price) for a STANDBY ticket for the second leg of her trip.

So. To you, nameless person at Continental, I offer this hearty, emphatic SCREW YOU!

Someone will pay. Oh yes.

1. There has to be a way to get the money back. Clearly a fuckup by the company,
and if you have the receipt with the original itinerary, there's no reason she should have to eat the cost for the new ticket.

Pain in the ass, these airlines.

2. I find a nice letter to everyone of the higher ups works wonders.
When my FIL was put on the wrong plane two summers ago (yup), I called everyone all the way up the chain and got major satisfaction. Two round trip tickets and the little shit at customer service who hung up on me got fired.

:bounce:

3. We tried that with Sprit airlines,
and go no where fast! The last time we flew to Mexico, our luggage never even made it on the plane in RI and we were two hours late leaving! Had to buy swim suits and tee shirts at the resort and they were supposed to pay us $25 a bag and at three bags that is $75 a day. Well they wouldn't even pay us the full $75, "due to conversion rates" bastiges! Will never fly them again!

It's not like he needs a large or anything.

11. This happened to me at NW this fall
Trip had 3 legs. They deleted the middle one, making the last one go away also. Checked in night before to find we would be stranded in (US city) for 2 wks, then return from (France) 2 wks later. Never ever ever not check your tickets several times over the last couple days. Their excuse was the middle flight was delayed, so we couldn't catch flight #3, so they just canceled them. We got reinstated on fights that left 2 MINUTES later after I yelled at them on the phone and was a bit, yes me, sarcastic. Keep all the receipts, do everything in writing and good luck.

12. Let me amend my rant to include an asshole at United.
Who the fuck sells THIRTY NINE standby tickets for one flight? Seriously. Thirty-fucking-nine. So, if Madrone was going to be stranded, she could have been stranded HERE instead of a fucking airport. For crying out loud, they HAD to know. HAD TO.

So, to conclude: screw you Continental and screw you United. Hard.

13. I would definitely write them a letter.
I've flown a lot on Continental (obviously) and have had generally very good service, but when they've messed up, they've made it better when I've complained. She might get some miles or a ticket out of it, who knows. Good luck!

23. I'm HOME.
And holy shit, am I TIRED.

Interesting side note: I was seated next to Mike Leavitt - former Gov. to Utah, and current Secretary of Health and Human Services. This guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Leavitt

He was VERY nice, and engaged me in conversation almost immediately. After we talked, I yanked out my copy of "Conservatives Without Conscience" and read for the rest of the trip. Hilarious.

Oh, and I fell flat on my ass promptly after getting home. It seems there's been freezing rain here for a couple of days, and yep - I biffed it!
