This night just keeps getting better.
So my little boy has a rash. I gave him some Benadryl and rubbed some hydrocortisone cream on him for tonight, but tomorrow we're going to the pediatrician. Still, he's pretty miserable, and is going to miss school tomorrow.

Then I get a call from ThinkBlue1966 at work (Olive Garden). It seems that someone spilled something slippery in the cooler and neglected to clean it up, and when she went in there she slipped and fell. Hard. Even though her arm was hurting REALLY bad, she attempted to continue working anyway because her managers wanted her to stay, but then she started developing a very large black knot on the injured forearm, and her fingers didn't want to work properly. So now she's in the hospital's Emergency Department, with a possible broken arm. Worse still, the asshole managers at OG gave her a hard time about leaving work to go to the ER! They complained that they had "nobody to replace her" (she was the only evening kitchen backup person working tonight) and practically forbade her to go. She basically told them to fuck off, and went anyway. If it *is* broken, we are going to have a *lengthy* chat with the general manager tomorrow about the way she was treated tonight by the evening management staff. I am absolutely disgusted that ANY place of business would expect an employee with a potentially broken limb to try and continue working, even if it IS "only a few more hours until closing". :grr:  :grr:

1. I hope her arm isn't broken but it doesn't sound good either way.
If she slipped on a mess in the workplace, you will have good leverage to turn your lengthy chat into something that might benefit ThinkBlue1966. Sorry to hear you've had so much crappy stuff going on.

2. Thank you--I needed that hug.
I honestly hope to whatever deity might exist that her arm isn't broken. She has enough to deal with, with the new college semester getting ready to start. This is the last thing she needs right now. :(

3. Not to mention
the possible OSHA violation in the cooler.

Go get 'em! :bounce:

5. I hadn't thought that far ahead.
But seriously--how much of an asshat can you possibly be? I want to go scream bloody murder at those thoughtless idiots. They even had the nerve to imply that there might be "consequences" for leaving early to go to the hospital. :grr: (there needs to be a "strangle" smiley)

7. 'Consequences'
That'll look good in the lawsuit, huh?

8. He he he....
What consequences, in particular, were you referring to, Mr Asshat? Don't be shy, now. Speak into the microphone....

6. I'll be back in a bit. We have dialup and I want to keep the phone
line open in case she's trying to call.

9. here's hoping it's a "simple" injury
easily treated. OG is the one in a bad position here!
A dear friend slipped at work when some detergent got spilled and no one cleaned it up. She went down hard and bounced her head off the floor repeatedly. That's what is known as a closed head brain injury. She was forced into an early retirement has trouble walking, ongoing memory difficulties and migraines. Falls are not something to try to work through!
Take it easy (as much as possible)and may it all work out well for you and yours.

10. Some people just have "SUE ME" stamped on their foreheads
Like water, these managers are seeking their lowest level, and will soon find it with the help of a pink slip. Perhaps they'll do better at something like timeshare sales.

11. WV, by law, requires first report of injury at workplace
as is the case most everywhere. The Dept. of Labor should be notified of the violations that started the accident, and that ThinkBlue was told to work, instead of receiving medical treatment ON THEIR TIME AND DIME, as well as a report being written up about the injury IMMEDIATELY.

http://tinyurl.com/ykmnyh
<snip>
Don’t let the forms for first reporting of injuries fool you. They aren’t that complicated once you get the hand of filling them out. And in West Virginia, as in most other states across this great land, you must be sure to know how to fill these first report of injury forms out because they are required each and every time one of your employees gets hurt.

Hope you and yours have a much better day tomorrow.
