4 1/2 year old Jack will have a little sister.
We found out on the 28th.
She says she has a complete set now, and plans to retire from child bearing.
No name yet.

20. This is just my opinion, which is worth about as much as the paper it's written on

(so to speak), but I don't think that either of those names really "goes" with Jack. Not that names need to be all matchy-matchy or anything (my younger kids' are, but that wasn't actually by design), but they should at least flow well together.

Jack is so traditional and strong sounding, and Ryleigh has much trendier sound.

Anyway, it's none of my beeswax, so I should probably keep quiet now. :)

I love the first name, and the middle name works out well with any two syllable name. (It also happens to be my first name and my favorite name in the whole world! It was my grandmother's middle name. Her first name was Hazel. And My friend Sarah's middle name too!! Lots of cool people have it as a middle name!! Oh, and the first name is a funky spelling of Zoey.)

Names - I have a very ethnic (scandanavian) and unusual name - when I was little I wanted nothing more than to have a name like "Lee" or "Chris" (note the nongender names - didn't recognize it at the time - I was five - seven - but already picked up on the fact that little girls were slightly more limited in opportunities than little boys, I guess). But things changed - by the time I came of age - I loved the uniqueness of my name.

A number of years ago a friend named a child after an older relative "Frieda" - at first our reaction was... "why would you do that to a child?" (give a name from another era) - but as soon as the little girl came into our lives we could imagine no other name for her. So a thought to pass on - a rare name with meaning to the child might be nice - though between the ages of four and eight, or so, the child may be less than appreciative... but for all of the rest of the years... great appreciation.

Were I to name a child right now, it would either be Scandnavian (and family oriented), or - if a girl - would be after a very influential aunt "Mildred". Ten years ago, I would never have considered such a name (seemed of such a very different era) - but perspective and age have given me a more mature appreciation for how much a name can mean.
