I reach an important milestone this year

By the end of 2007 I will be eligible for early retirement!

That doesn't mean I can afford to retire, since they penalize people based on their age. I could retire and apply for food stamps, or wait a few years.

Even though it's not something I can afford to do, it's comforting that I'll be past the "entrenched civil servant" phase of my life, and into the "don't fuck with me, or I'll quit" phase.

If I'd had kids, I'd be looking forward to at least another ten to 15 years of this place (they tell me that kids are expensive). In reality, I'm looking forward to actual retirement in four years. The pension, and the nest egg will be larger by then.

I'll paint my pictures, and sail my boat, and pretty much be a human being at last.
