I sat next to former (Utah) Gov. Mike Leavitt on the plane last night.
Currently appointed Secretary of Health and Human Services - He was a very nice man.

1. So, how was your flight?
Was the airplane MRE as delicious as expected?

4. rotflmao
MRE?

The flight was.... a clusterfuck. See here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x6011168

Other than that, it was pretty good.

The food was decent, as it was first class. A fruit and cheese plate - very much welcomed since I hadn't eaten all day.

7. Well. that is an interesting saga
and kudos for the fruit and cheese plate....last time I flew I ate some rubbery ravioli with some red splat they called sauce. At least Little Malta Blue liked it, as I have not had enough time to refine her palate. She is still in the nuggets and fries phase although she does request manchego and cornichons with her baguette and Shirley Temple.

8. I did not recognize him.
He engaged me in conversation almost immediately - and asked if Seattle were my hometown. Then he asked where I was coming from, and in that conversation DU was mentioned. (Actually, I mentioned a political website I was a member of, without mentioning DU by name) He asked me if I were interested in politics, and for how long. I mentioned my 1980's presidential election as my first real interest in politics - and that at 8 years old I had a definite preference - even contrary to that of my parents. He asked WHO - and I said CARTER, of course. ;)

He then told me that he was on his way to Seattle after having spent the day at Ford's funeral. I asked how he'd ended up being fortunate enough to participate in that and he told me that he worked in government. I'm a question asker by nature, so I asked if he filled an elected position, and he told me that he was appointed, Health and Human services Secretary, but that he had been Governor for a number of years before that. I asked if he minded me asking of where, and his name. He didn't mind but that I wouldn't probably know who he was - and told me Mike Leavitt, from Utah.

I told him that I definitely recognized the name, but would not have been able to say who he was if given the name and asked who he was.

9. Well, not with that intent in mind.
But YES. ;)

I choked on my water and was about to puke (if I cough too hard I throw up - it's a problem I have!) in the good Secretary's lap so had to scoot by him to go to the restroom. So I believe my butt was in his face long enough for him to take a good look. :D
