4. I love Johnny Cash. He's stood the test of time best of them all
but was really only a modest "star" in his country heyday.

I've been a Cash fan ever since I stole the 45 of I Walk the Line from my aunt when I was about 5.

I think George Jones was by far the most influential singer of the bunch. Cash's voice was so unique that he wasn't as much of an influence vocally.

Tammy Wynette, too, was hugely influential on later country singers.

you should read his autobiography. I could only take about 10 pages at a time before I wanted to throw the damn book against the wall. And that was *his* side of the story.


But, his vocal style has influenced singers in country, rock and pop for two generations now.
