Broken arrow and Bottle of Rain?
A la Rod Stewart...

"Who else is gonna bring you a broken arrow? Who else is gonna bring you a bottle of rain?"

Anybody know what the heck these lyrics come from? Is this some lit. reference that I have no idea about? Mythology? Another culture?

Help, Lounge smarty-pantses, help!!

1. If CMW brought me a broken arrow,
I would probably ask whether he still had the receipt.

3. Stewart covered Robbie Robertson's original song
It's some American Indian kinda thing. If you like it, check out Robertson's 'Music for the Native Americans.' Good stuff.

12. Right. I thought it was Robbie Robertson.
That's a vastly under rated album. His first solo album, I believe... I have a CD copy somewhere.

14. Ok, but where'd *he* get it?
I mean, it's an odd pair of things to not have a story behind them, don't you think?

15. Well, Robbie's a native Canadian and I believe he has roots...
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 12:41 PM by speedoo
that are connected to Native Americans somehow. I seem to recall that some of the lyrics he wrote for The Band referred to Native Americans.

But it will take me a while, like a few days, to check that out.

18. That's a pretty strong album.
And his studio band and featured musicians are stellar: Daniel Lanois, Martin Page, Garth Hudson (natch), Peter Gabriel, the BoDeans, Terry Bozzio, U2, Maria McKee, Ian Neville

5. I think it has something to do with the Kickapoo Indians.
A Bottle of Rain is a kind of love story involving a mute clown, a blind gypsy fortune-teller, FBI agents, an award-winning poet told to teach fiction, and the last Kickapoo Indian girl born in Champaign County, who has returned to the Land of Lincoln in search of her parents. You'll get a brief history of computers, a not so brief history of the Kickapoo Indian Tribe (told in an unorthodox manner), a revisionist view of Abraham Lincoln.

If you're being totally serious, or completely facetious. I'm inclined to think you're being serious, though...

17. I apologize
I call everyone "dude"; I didn't mean it to be offensive.

I see now that others have mentioned that same thing, and I thank you for the details.

So, it may or may not be the "answer".

20. Robertson is half Mohawk. ... Broken Arrow Lyrics.
His father is/was Jewish, his mother is/was Mohawk. He was born in Toronto.

Here sre the full lyrics... that's all I got for now. Good night!

Broken Arrow..

Who else is gonna bring you
A broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you
A bottle of rain
There he goes, moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole
world around

Do you feel what I feel
Can we make that so it's part of the deal
I gotta hold you in these arms of steel
Lay your heart on the line ... this time

I wanna breathe when you breathe
When you whisper like that hot
summer breeze
Count the beads of sweat that cover me
Didn't you show me a sign, this time

Who else is gonna bring you
A broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you
A bottle of rain
There he goes, moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole
world around

Can you see what I see
Can you cut behind the mystery
I will meet you by the witness tree
Leave the whole world behind

I want to come when you call
I'll get to you if I have to crawl
They can't hold me with these iron walls
We've got mountains to climb

Who else is gonna bring you
A broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you
A bottle of rain
There he goes, moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole
world around

:-)

The song is discussed on Pg. 2 of the article. Some relevant info.
