Connect yourself to Kevin Bacon
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 01:02 PM by LSK
I met Senator Dick Durbin last fall.

Senator Durbin works with Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton is married to Bill Clinton.

Al Gore was Clintons VP.

Ben Affleck campaigned for Al Gore in 2000.

Ben Affleck had a high-profile romance with actress Gwyneth Paltrow in 1998, following her breakup with actor Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt was in the movie "Sleepers" with Kevin Bacon.

I am soooooo fucking hollywood!

Another 4

Got ya beat. :)

By way of explanation, I was a spectator at the 1979 Crosby Pro-Am Golf Tournament. It rained out that particular day and all the celebs were in the Pebble Beach Lounge. I ran into Lemmon in the bathroom (he was at the next urnal over LOL). He was half crocked already. We started talking and he told me about his upcoming movie release (The China Syndrome). Long story short, we ended up partying with country singer Charlie Pride all night in the upper bar. Those were two great guys. Totally unpretentious and down-to-earth.

Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 06:21 PM by Minnesota_Lib
When I first saw Lemmon, he was sitting at a corner table drinking wine with a young fellow whom I think was his caddy. All the other celebs were hanging with each other. I remember two little girls approaching the table of Bob Hope and Phil Harris to ask for Hope’s autograph. Hope and Harris glared at them with disdain (but Hope signed the autograph anyway). I never liked Hope after seeing that. Meanwhile, Lemmon’s caddy left and he got up looking for company. Instead of joining other celebs, he approached a family of four regular folks (I think it was the same two little girls that Hope had treated so shabbily) and asked if he could join them. They were totally shocked. It was awesome.

He sat with them for about 30 minutes, chatting and laughing it up. He bought a bottle of wine to share with the parents and sodas for the kids. He seemed to really enjoy it-—and you can bet the family enjoyed it. I’ll never forget that. He was just a great guy.

It was a bit later that I ran into him in the restroom. Later that night my buddy and I went to the nearly empty upstairs bar. Lemmon saw us and invited us to join him, Charlie Pride and about 4 or 5 young “jet-set” type women who had also joined them. Jack and Charlie were toasted by this time and that was just the beginning of the night.

I tell you, you would never have known these guys were celebs. They were totally down-to-earth. At one point Jack was coming on to one of the young ladies and I interrupted, commenting on what a great actor he was as evidenced by how convincing he was as he delivered those lines. The whole table burst out laughing at him and he responded by jumping up and whacking me over the head several times with his golf cap. It was absolutely hilarious.

Every time the waiter visited us, Charlie would order a round for the entire table and tell the waiter to put it on the “Irishman’s” tab. Unfortunately, I was the Irishman (I have an Irish name) and I had like 20 bucks in my pocket. I just laughed and kept drinking. I thought he was kidding. Little did I know......

At one point, Charlie and I went downstairs to the restroom. On the trip back up we ran into George C. Scott and stopped to chat with him about his golf game. I don’t think Scott knew who Pride was as he was rather stand-offish to us (hell, I am not a country music fan so I really didn’t know much about him either until I checked a few days later). LOL

After about four hours of partying, my friend took me aside and asked me how much money I had. He told me that I probably had like a $400.00 plus bar bill from all the rounds Charlie had told the waiter I was buying. OMG!

I’m not proud of this, but we grabbed our jackets and excused ourselves, saying we were headed to the restroom. We never came back. HAHAHAHA!

The next day out on the course, a very hung-over looking Jack saw me in the crowd. He started laughing, winked at me and did a faux drunken trip-take. I took that to mean it was ok with him that I skipped out on the bar bill. At least I hoped so. LOL I later told my friends that Lemmon had just finished a spy movie in which he dies at the end. I don't know why I thought it was a spy movie. He had told me it was tentatively titled "The China Syndrome" so I guess I just assumed. At least I was right about him dying in the end. LOL.

That was one of the more memorable nights of my life. I had pictures but my ex-wife stole them out of spite when we split up. Bummer. Anyway, I will never forget Jack and Charlie. These were two really great guys who, IMO, were atypical of celebrities today.

RIP, Mr. Lemmon. You were truly one of a kind

42. I am only two degrees away from Kevin Bacon!
:P At a scholarship luncheon two years ago at the college where I formerly worked, I sat right beside Celia Weston. Celia is an alum of that college and was there to show support for the scholarship programs (she is a donor) and to meet current students. Celia is also an actress and has been in a lot of stuff. You'd probably recognize her if you saw her. I had a great conversation with her and really enjoyed meeting her. Celia was on an episode of Frasier in the mid-90s, and Kevin Bacon did a voiceover on Frasier somewhere around the same time.

See? Only two degrees! Celia Weston led me directly to Kevin Bacon!

One of my SIL's best friends is Rachel Dratch from SNL...so if Kevin Bacon ever hosted while she was on, it ends there. If not I'm sure one of the guests during her reign on the show was in a movie with him.

59. I went to college with a guy named Ray Roderick--
have lost touch, but knew him well then. We were in a choir and a musical together. He was a townie and his folks would invite me to lunch at their house after church on Sundays. We did our share of drinking together. We were good buds.

According to the Bacon Oracle:

Ray Roderick has a Bacon number of 2.

Ray Roderick was in Flamingo Kid, The (1984) with Marisa Tomei
Marisa Tomei was in Loverboy (2005) with Kevin Bacon

I think that gives me a Bacon Number of 3.
