CONFESS!!!! What was the first alcoholic beverage you ever had and how old were you?
I'm sure I had sips of beer here and there when my dad was alive but the first would probably be Rum & Diet Dr. Pepper. We had 2 bottles of Rum in the house that no one ever touched so in high school, anytime I'd want a little booze I'd take some out of the Rum bottle and add it to my Diet Dr. Pepper. It was actually a pretty good drink combination but you'd hardly get trashed off of it. I was probably about 17 years old when I did that

UGH that sounds horrible - almost as horrible as the homemade Apple Cider and Vodka I would drink in college

2. Can't remember that far back
But let's just say that my Nana believed that a shot of Peppermint Schnapps cured all ills. And she would be the one taking care of me when I had to stay home from school sick. I remember licking the shot glass to get every drop. hehehe. I'm talking elementary school here.

4. Beer
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 02:35 PM by Roon
I was about 12 at the time running around with my cousin in Aspen. I got pretty drunk. It was also the first time I had bong hits.
Then we went back to my Aunt's house where my parents and grandmother was waiting. I handled myself pretty damn well, for a 12-year-old on his first drunk/high.

I remember it was so nasty tasting I dumped it into the planter when no one was looking because I didn't want the other kids to think I was uncool and wouldn't drink beer

when I was three a mistook a glass of champagne for ginger ale, downed it before anyone noticed me, and wound up in the (unlit) fireplace.

I first snuck vodka and orange juice when I was 14.

12. One sip of Genny Cream Ale--ONE sip
Summer, cookout, back yard, I was 5 or 6. Genny Cream Ale was the beverage of choice for my dad and my uncles. I could smell this lovely thick, yeasty aroma coming out of the can, so my dad said, "Go ahead--try it."

Did NOT taste anything like I thought it would! :puke:

Never touched beer again till I was 18 and a freshman in college.

14. I was 16, maybe 17 and my boss had her annual Christmas party at her house
I have no idea what it was that I drank...but it sure burnt like fire going down. She had it in a beautiful decorator decanter that she picked up in her travels..it played music when it was raised. I can still see her dancing and whirling around with that decanter sipping right out it. She'd asked if I ever had alcohol before and I told her no, she told me I couldn't say that anymore and gave me the bottle and insisted I take a sip of it.

It's taken me all these years to realize the poor lady might have had a drinking problem. Each time she'd travel, she'd come back with these stories and injuries, like falling off the side of the cruise ship or accidently pulling the fire alarm in a hotel.

Thanks for joggin' the ole' memory. I hadn't thought about Antoinette for a very long time.

20. Starting at age fifteen my grandparents flew me and the
rest of my family from Oregon to Naples, Florda every spring break. We, the kids, would get our own condo with private pool, and when we were old enough to drive, they'd rent us a cadillac to get around in! Anyway, grampa was an alcoholic who liked company when he drank. We went out to dinner every night during our holiday and myself and my sister (one year younger) were treated to whatever we wanted to drink, whenever. We'd start the meal with a cocktail of some sort, drink wine with dinner and follow everything up with something hot and alcoholic. We were never carded although we must have looked like ten-year-olds. Grampa was very well known in the town.

Afterward we would go back to our condo and practice drunk diving in the pool. Those were the days. Long gone.

The time: 1982
The place: Oakland Lake Park
The Cast: one sisxteen year old sopohomore (me) and a dozen seniors.
The drink: Cherry Brandy

The result: I cannot to this day smell or taste cherry-anything w/o getting a bit nauseous

29. Had my first glass of white wine when I was 14.
My mother thought it was a good idea to show us (my siblings and me) it was OK to drink, just not to excess. She fixed a nice dinner and made a pizza (it was delicious!), and she had wine with dinner. My sister and brother didn't want any wine, but I tried it and thought, "What's the big deal?" :) I've never been a big drinker, but if I want a glass of wine occasionally, I have it.

(For those of you who don't know, my father is a recovering alcoholic, and growing up, I was around him a lot when he drank. My grandmother---Mom's mother---was also an alcoholic. I was around a lot of alcoholics growing up, and Mom just wanted to let us know that things could be different. :)

30. I was 14 the first time I ever got drunk
Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 03:54 PM by sammythecat
2 friends and I camped out with a bottle of Seagram's and a bottle of Gin. We finished the Seagram's and we were going to go driving around (I know, I know). One of us was 16 and had a license. I'd never drank before and didn't think I was feeling anything, so I told them to wait and I chugged way more than half the bottle of gin!

What a night. For a couple reasons all three of us, as well as innocent bystanders, were lucky to be alive the next day. I woke up drunk in a graveyard a couple miles from home and ran, stumbling, through yards and wash lines to get back home.

The next day and a half I was extremely sick. I don't think I've ever felt so bad in my entire life. For more than 30 years I couldn't even stand the smell of gin. There used to be a cologne called Bay Rum. It was popular back then. Smelled just like gin. Couldn't hack that either.

My grandfather used to make wine, and being the frugal sort, he made his wine from just about any sort of fruit squeezings he could add sugar and yeast to. If it would ferment, he bottled it. He gave lots of it away for gifts, probably kept the good stuff for himself.

Anyway when I was 13 or 14 a buddy and I stole a jug of grandpa's TOMATO WINE that my parents had stashed in the laundry room to fossilize. NOBODY in their right mind would drink that nasty stuff.

We drank it all.

We went to a "teen dance" at the local "community center"-- this was the 60s in suburbia, after all-- where we both eventually hurled over the railing from the second floor balcony onto the dance floor below-- it was the first time I got the "spins," too. They tossed us out. The vomit looked like thin blood, with curds in it. We were excrutiatingly sick for the next 24 hours or so.

32. My Dad used to give us sips of his beer.
I remember one Halloween (I think I was 9). He was the one taking us trick-or-treating that year. He had a beer with him, and I was really thirsty. We were on foot with no store around to buy juice or water, so Dad gave me a drink of his beer. That was probably the first time I had more than a drop or two. It didn't do anything to me, though.

I dipped a finger into a glass of wine at Christmas to let my little boy taste it. He made quite a face, lol.

39. A sip of whiskey at 12. It grossed me out.
I started drinking in earnest at 17. I quit drinking regularly (meaning even drinking once every couple of weeks or so) several years ago--still have a drink on occasion, but not very frequently. The "buzz" just has no appeal to me these days.

Nowadays, I might have a drink once every six months. I think the last time I had a drink, though, was in June 2005.
