I doubted, but after hearing "Elephant" as a whole one day, it all just "fit".

and an understanding of what simplicity is.

5. Simple is really hard to do well

because there is no place to hide. I don't know that the Stripes are totally successful but they do a pretty good job.

6. They choose very interesting instrumentation, so although simple, the sound that

they create is not similar to others currently being played.


And, on a side note, Jack White did a damn fine acting job in Cold Mountain.
