3. Here you go..
Don't Bogart That Joint
Lyrics: Lawrence Wagner
Music: Elliot Ingber

Played by Little Feat's Paul Barrere and Bill Payne with Phil & Friends. The original verson (on the soundtrack of "Easy Rider") was by Fraternity Of Man. It was subsequently covered by Little Feat.

Chorus
Don't bogart that joint my friend
Pass it over to me
Don't bogart that joint my friend
Pass it over to me

Roll another one
Just like the other one
You've been holding on to it
And I sure will like a hit

Roll another one
Just like the other one
That one's burned to the end
Come on and be a real friend

Recordings

1969? Easy Rider (Soundtrack)
1988 The Last Record Album (Little Feat)

10. Don't forget "Shanty" by Jonathan Edwards
No bogart references but a nice tune anyway

gonna sit down in the kitchen and fix me something good to eat
and make my head a little high and make this whole day complete
cuz we gonna lay around the shanty mama and put a good buzz on

well pass it to me baby, pass it to me slow
we'll take time out to smile a little before we let it go
cuz we gonna lay around the shanty mama and put a good buzz on

(piano solo)

well there ain't nothin' to do and there's always room for more
fill it, light it, shut up and close the door
cuz we gonna lay around the shanty mama and put a good buzz on

(harmonica solo)

we gonna sit around the kitchen fix us somethin' good to eat
and make ourselves a little high and make the whole day complete
cuz we gonna lay around the shanty mama and put a good buzz on
cuz we gonna lay around the shanty mama and put a good buzz on

4. From answerbag.com...
"Several people have emailed me asking how Humphrey Bogart's name became associated with a term meaning selfishness. Ah, how soon we forget the intricacies of '60s drug culture. The selfish connotation comes from hogging a marijuana cigarette. Someone who kept the joint in their mouth, hanging from their lip like Bogey, would be bogarting the joint. Instead of bogarting, one should pass it on to another. The term can be used for hoarding items other than pot."

8. During the filming of "The African Queen" .....
Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn (and the Guys on the set) would get stoned out of the minds because of the heat.
Since Humphrey was known as a heavy Smoker, (of Pot) he often would not share the joint as
easily as most people would want so it came to be known as "Don't Bogart that Joint".

18. I get that "Bogart" term all the time.
This is when I would hold either of my niece's babies. My excuse is that I don't get to see them all the time. My sister's family see them more than I do. Luckily, my niece does hand the babies to me.
