I was embarrassed.
Sometimes I write little stories and post them here on DU. I started saving them about a couple of years ago. I went back through the stories the other day and read the first story that I wrote here. It was a decent story, but the grammar was just horrible. My grammar still isn't perfect, but I was embarrassed that I posted that story here. Then I thought of all of the other posts that I had written before that. The grammar in those posts was probably even worse. Y'all probably thought I was a freeper.

But the embarrassment led to a little insight. I've grown a lot. Not only as a writer, but also as a person since I started posting here. In a few more years I might look back on the stuff that I've written now and see some growth as well. That is a very good thing. Life is getting better for me and I'm maturing. That's progress, my friends, and it's good to know that I've not stopped growing since becoming an adult. I wish you all many progressive years. Peace.

2. My dear Droopy!
Don't be embarrassed!

The lucky people get to grow, and to look back and see it!

I only remember how terrific your stories have always been.......

And I mean it! I knew you were no freeper......

How's your staying awake going? I know it's past 1AM now, for you.....

4. I'm doing alright
A couple of yawns and I feel like I could go to bed now, but I'm hanging in there. When I was doing the over the road gig I had to drive all night sometimes. I would usually have to stop and take a nap for about 1-2 hours. I may have to do that at the new job as well in the beginning. I'm sure that they would rather have the freight be a little bit late than have their truck in the ditch or even worse spread out across the highway.

I'm really happy that you guys like my stories. It leads me to believe that they might have a future with a wider audience. We'll see one of these days.

3. Yes, progressive in many ways!
If you're still growing, you're still going.

5. Funny that. When I first found The DU in Feb of 2001, I was so intimated by
those who posted here. My first post was about Jim Rob ie Free Republic and I remember saying that I couldn't compete with the intellect at DU, but I was so appalled at his requirements for being member at FR. I can not remember which DUer reply to my first post, but I do remember that he/she was very gracious! So glad to hear that you have grown both grammatically and mentally. DU has grown me politically! I am so grateful for that!

6. Good deal
I don't post in the political forums much anymore, but I used to quite a bit. I knew very little about the political process here in my home country before I came to DU. I didn't even know what a primary was I don't think. I just knew that I hated the oncoming war and that I loved Howard Dean. Even though I don't get out there and talk politics with you guys at least I do understand the process now and now I know who I'm voting for and why.

9. Thank you
I guess I just have higher standards for myself now when it comes to communicating through the written word. I want to be a writer some day.

I was sort of joking with the freeper comment. I just wanted to give you guys an idea about how poor I thought my writing was. When I first came to DU it was insinuated by a few folks that I might not be on the up and up. But now that I think about it, a lot of people probably go through that when they first come here.

11. I think pointing out some helpful advice about spelling/grammar can be good
however, I absolutely CRINGE at the way some DUers confuse education with intelligence and respond in seriously cruel ways

12. I'm glad you was embarassed and not am embarassed!
Hows dat for gramma?

If you don't write because you might be embarassed you might not write.

And in your case, that would be bad if you didn't write, Droopy.

Peace!

:hi:
