Is there a way to re-cover speakers?
Edited on Sun Jan-07-07 05:58 PM by crispini
I have some old-school speakers, you know, big box style, and the cat's been clawing them and they look awful. Is there a way to make them look good again, or should I give up?

1. I think you can purchase speaker grill fabric
It's been a while since I worked in electronics so I might have the name wrong but there are fabrics you can buy to recover the speaker box.

2. I guess they're covered with fabric?
If you find an upholsterer, it shouldn't be a problem.

3. Yes, they are very old-school covered with fabric.
I just took the outer fabric off and the thing is that I can't figure out how to get the front part apart from the back part. It's almost like it's glued on. These things are at least 20 years old, lol.

4. What make/model are the speakers?
Some have tricks to disassembly. www.partsexpress.com and www.madisound.com have grill cloth and speaker parts. If there are any rotted foam surrounds on the drivers Parts Express has the re-foam kits.

5. Thanks for the links!
They're Kenwoods. They're not that high-end. Actually I just cut the grill cloth off and they don't look half bad like that, so I think I'll just leave them alone, haha!
