What Makes You Cringe?
The sound of certain people's voices (bush) makes me cringe.
The thought of a spider crawling over me makes me cringe.
Sometimes people send email pictures of really gory scenes that make me cringe.

I know there are more---I'll post again when they come to mind.

30. All involve how the herd acts around powered wheelchairs.
they start walking the way they drive. They see you coming in a powered wheelchair and just when you get to them they decide to dart out in front of you real quick or decide to go from 60 to zero in 2 steps and expect you not to crash into the back of their legs - or stand around right in the middle of the damn hallway yacking and look at you like you are the problem when you need to get by.

34. I've heard of that before,
but I don't know why it would bother anyone. To me it is just cotton in a bottle. The fact that aspirin dust might be on it shouldn't bother anyone if they are willing to swallow the aspirin. So, what about it makes you cringe? I would just like to understand it.

12. my cringe sound is velcro
i was given a wallet with a velcro fastener and had to throw it away. then i had to pretend to the giver that i'd lost it.

i wonder if there's a common link in the cringe sounds. styrofoam and velcro and (the classic) nails-on-blackboard are all annoyingly high pitched and random, maybe that's the essence of cringe...

50. Really!
Well, it doesn't creep ME out. I live in a Victorian house with more antiques than I can repair in a lifetime.

My post was a reference to Billy Bob Thornton (the picture was a clue), who is afraid of antique furniture.

Watch "Sling Blade". The antagonist (Dwight Yoakam) mentions his revulsion to antiques. This was an allusion to Thornton's own phobia.

56. The waitress serving our group of 9
at my parents' 60th anniversary dinner last night made me cringe. I needed another fork when she brought my entree because one had been removed along with my salad dish and the other had an old bit of food stuck to it. I politely asked for another and she surprised me with, "Use one of hers" - pointing to my daughter. This was a nice restaurant and that comeback really threw me for a loop.

So I guess someone treating me rudely for no good reason makes me cringe.

Not political, just a salty sailor who had been around, and thought the metric system sucked.

Take a foot, or an inch. You can easily divide it into three, four, two or six. What's two thirds, of a meter? He made a good point.
