Garden State was the last really good movie I rented. Any suggestions... please!

1. The Women
Made in 1939 by George Cukor. A really excellent bitchy all-woman cast that really delivers. I rented it last weekend. It was excellent.

2. If you like puzzles: "Stay"
If you like to be really, really scared: "Descent."
"Lady in the Water" was surprisingly good. I watched it cautiously because I was disappointed in the director's other movies, except "The Sixth Sense," which was brilliant.

5. It depends on the mood you're in.
A political movie? Try Silver City.

A suspenseful drama? Matewan, by the same director (John Sayles).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093509/

Dysfunctional families over the holidays? Try La Buche.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211286/

An indie ensemble cast melodrama? Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0210358/

A classic comedy from the golden age of Hollywood, but nothing too cliched? Rent Ball of Fire.

Have fun!
