What band am I thinking of? (#8)
Hi! I was away from work Friday so I didn't get to post one of these. Did you miss me? :D

Anyway, you know how this works. You ask me questions and try to guess what band I'm thinking of. Go ahead, I'm ready. :)

Previous answers (I will not repeat answers):

GnR
The Police
The Temptations
Afghan Whigs
Faces
Live
Jesus and Mary Chain

That 70s Show is my favoritest show of the 90s, and the Big Star dudes originated that theme. They also do a sweet ballad called "Thirteen", also featured on said show. Plus, I got that compilation out of the library last month. Plus every other '71 formed band that fit the "cult, not big hits" description either had dead members or was British.

And thanks for the picture. I'm happy I won now. :toast: :loveya: :headbang:

okay, I have heard of "Live" but not enough to recognize any of their songs. I'm also not sure about Faces. I am thinking it was Rod Stewart's group before/during his solo career.

47. Yes - Faces was Rod Stewart's old band.
You've heard some Live songs - probably "Lightning Crashes" - it was a huge hit.

Big Star didn't have as big of hits, but they are widely regarded as being a hugely influential transitional band - getting away from the bombastic power rock of the 70's and introducing a more pop-based, cleanly-written and performed alternative to that sound - influencing REM and loads of others. Big Star's singer, Alex Chilton, also had a solo career.

Which other ones hadn't you heard of?

48. afghan whigs and Jesus and Mary Chain
and I have never heard "Lightning crashes" unless somebody played it at work. I have not listened to radio for many years. So I do not hear hits. My random playing computer is like a radio station that plays only songs that I like. When I am in the car I will quickly change channels if the oldies metal station plays something I have never heard of unless it hooks me in the first thirty seconds.
