HA ha!! I'm a genius!! (not!) I had problems all of a sudden connecting to the internet on the laptop wherein I had installed IE7. Uninstalled it and reverted to IE6 but still could not connect. After lots of phone time and not any progress at all; I decided I could just as easily figure it out on my own--and I did! It was the Norton Security stuff that had come with my computer--something about IE7 activated it to start prompting me to install; and had somehow reconfigured my firewall settings or some such. ANYway; after first installing and then immediately uninstalling Norton; the connection started right up!! YAY!!! Teach me to trust Microsoft. Hey! Better late than never. Go ahead and lecture me about the evils of MS and the wonder of Firefox and etc.

I know that stuff is such a pain, and Norton is a nightmare from hell to deal with. I have been putting off getting in touch with them for about three months because of a problem I have with anti-virus. I'm impressed you got it figured out. I'm totally inspired.

I use Firefox and my SO uses IE. We had problems with IE7, un-installed it and than had even bigger problems. Reinstalled it but then the screen for IE7 was missing sections. I tried system restore which doesn't work as advertised and then ended up uninstalling/reinstalling IE7 again. Eventually it got fixed. Through some miracle it now works. I have Norton installed also...that's something I would never do again.
I don't have anything against IE7. I'm just used to Firefox.

We did the system restore too--did not work correctly either. Don't know how Norton got turned on but yet not installed but still messing with the firewall (????) but now that it's gone--much better. I like figuring this stuff out;but I'm sure someday I'm gonna do something dumb and lock it all up. Keep your fingers crossed........
