I need some computer help, please.

I had some computer issues and had to do a format and re-installation of Windows XP. Everything has gone exceptionally well, so far. This machine is faster than it's been in years. The re-installation of most of the programs I wanted to keep has gone effortlessly.

However, the only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to get my sound back. This is a Sony Vaio that had everything installed when I bought it.

It's telling me I have no audio device installed.

In my device manager it has a listing for "Multimedia Audio Controller" under Other (unknown) devices. I'm not sure if this is the sound card or not. (It also has "unknown device" but I'm not terribly concerned about that right now. I can figure that out later)

How should I proceed? I will be actively responding to responses I get so if you need more information, feel free to ask.

I have both the original recovery disks and the original Windows XP disk at my disposal.

1. Download the drivers from Sony's site.

Look for support and downloads (or something similar) - you should be able to find it by searching for the model of your computer.

2. excellent so far, but...

I found the drivers and have tried to install them twice, but I still have no sound and my device manager still isn't recognizing the Sound Card.

Any further advice?

3. You should have a sound card (I have SoundMax)

that needs specific drivers. These should be found on your installation disk or supplementary disk provided with your computer -- use win explorer to locate your sound files. Another option is to contact these guys http://www.5starsupport.com/ as they give good advice (free). Techs there are friendly and knowledgeable.
