I spend about 60 bucks a month for cable on my computer.
BTW 4 and 6 in the morning I'm dumped like dial-up, trying to go through back ways to get back to DU or where ever I was. There is no dsl in my area. What do I do?

2. No, I'm confused too.
What on earth does "dumped like dial-up" mean?

3. When I was on dial-up I was constantly getting bumped off.
I don't know why, don't know tech stuff. I'd be posting something and bam, everything gone and I'm trying to dial in again. This was in 2001 and it usually took about an hour to get back on line if I could at all. I usually just gave up. Have things changed?

5. That shouldn't happen.
And it definitely shouldn't happen on your cable internet connection. I would call cable tech support.

6. Pre cable. Phone line. "dial-up"
I skipped the whole thing for 2 years. 2004 I bought a new PC and got cable which treats me like I'm on dial-up sometimes. Thus the rant.:hurts:

11. What I'm saying is, your dial up should not act like that,
and neither should your cable. When you connect, you should stay connected, whether it be dial-up or cable. That behaviour means you have some kind of problem, and I'd call tech support.

4. I took it to mean that hickman's connection slows down to dial-up
speed at a certain time. :hi:

12. Hm, you've talked about two different problems here.
Are you getting disconnected, or are you just getting a SLOW connection? They're different symptoms. Are you getting disconnected, like seeing 404 pages in your browser, or are you just seeing that it slows way down, but you are still getting web pages?

Either way, start off by turning off your cable modem, turning off your computer, waiting a few minutes, turning the cable modem back on, and turning the computer back on. If that doesn't fix the problem, and you are talking about SLOW internet, then check for spyware. If you are talking about getting disconnected, then call the cable company.

10. Have wireless? (Also - check for spyware or viruses)
because friendly (or not) people might be attaching themselves to your connection.
