Anyone else here love Romero's Dead Trilogy?
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 04:39 PM by absyntheNsugar
That is

Night of the Living Dead (excellent commentary on racism and madness of mobs)

Dawn of the Dead (excellent commentary on consumerism)

Day of the Dead (excellent commentary on militarism)

Out of all the horror movies from the past 30 years, these flicks have never been surpassed...

1. They shot "Day" while I was in college
in Pittsburgh. I knew some of the zombies.

4. Oh yessss!!
Not as good as Dawn, but still a smack in the face of a movie!

The zombies have taken over, and a small group of scientists and solidiers are living in an underground nuclear silo. Not long before the two groups turn on each other....

Made at the height of the Reagan-era, full of paralells.

dawn was a blast to watch. day was alright nothin to write home about.
but i love the whole idea of zombies movies, so primal in nature. kick ass.

8. All of them are great!

I hadn't previously seen the social messages, but I've always liked the films.

...even the spinoffs, like "Return of the Living Dead" and "Return of the Living Dead 2" (not Romero flicks). The best part of "Return 2" was that it wasn't a sequel, it just pretended that "Return 1" never happened...hysterical!

9. I love them!
Whatever you do, don't see "Children of the Dead". It's by one of the "co-owners" of the NotLD copyright and it sucks to high heaven.

If you're a fan of Romero, then you should know about his upcoming MUSICAL Zombie film. Yeah, I'm not joking. The music is being done by one of the musicans involved with Rocky Horror.

It's called "The Diamond Dead" and isn't a Dead series film. The fourth film is coming up after this...supposedly.

12. Night of The Living Dead is a classic!
The followups were OK, but paled in comparison to the original. Maybe I'm just a sick puppy, but I crack up every time I watch the end. One guy, against all odds, makes it through the horror of the previous night, only to earn a headshot from the local deputies when he pokes his head out to get some help. There's never been a better example of irony in film history, as far as I'm concerned.

15. They are all terrific
I got to see the latter two for the first time thanks to IFC (Independent Film Channel) which also showed two excellent horror film documentaries -- "Document of the Dead" which was filmed while "Dawn" was being made, and another one which analyzed horror films of the 70s.

Dawn is my favorite. What can I say, I'm a mall-rat. ;)
