The movie Being There with Peter Sellers

was hysterical...my favorite scene was the maid Louise sitting in her apt building proclaiming that it was indeed a white man's world if a man who couldn't read was an advisor to the president!

Great performances all around, and an incredibly cool and moving story (with some funny parts).

I also REALLY love that house that Rand owns! Lordy, I'd love a house like that.

I often watch the movie JUST to see the house.

I also am often compelled after watching Being There to watch The Thing, since the one guy plays the doctor in both movies. :-)

5. In case you didn't know, that's the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC

The largest private residence in US history, built by one of the Vanderbilts. I've visited there and it's a pretty cool tour plus there's wine-tasting in the vineyard. Here's a link to a virtual tour:

8. I visited Biltmore last week

My master bath is about 4 times as large as George's is, but I could fit house into the mansion 300 times...

The house is interesting, but there is no place to put up your shoes and watch a football game! Way, way too formal, and all the rooms have such high ceilings it creates a very cold ambiance. Not my cup of tea.

I also took interest in seeing where we are heading (returning) to as a society. Old George never worked a day in his life, and made more money in an hour than his employees made in a lifetime. Can you imagine busting your hump 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for $.50 a day?

3. Very prescient movie. And Peter Sellers' best performance, IMO.

My favorite moment...

Chauncey Gardiner is at a Georgetown party. He's talking to a government official, who's gay and slyly comes on to Chauncey. Finally, Chauncey says that "he likes to watch". Government official then excitedly tells Chauncey: "let me get Warren!"

11. I miss Peter Sellers

In this world of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler, I miss the subtle yet often physical humor of Peter Sellers. Got to rent this one this week.
