Cooking/Food Safety Question
Hello,

Does anyone know if it is safe to cook and consume cube steak that is only one day over the freeze or use by date?

It says January 9, but since this is only the 10 could I still make it for dinner?

I hate to waste it because I was too forgetful, but I don't want to make it, and then have my Mom or
I get sick. She thinks it would be okay but I wanted to double check.

So what do you think? Safe or not?

1. If it looks and smells ok I would go ahead and cook it.
And have some nice wine with it too! :hi:

2. hell yes
it should be good for another week.

freshness guidelines (unless the product is moldy - then cut the affected area - or outright smelly - and that depends on how smelly, i've seen people cook the hell out of something SEEMINGLY bad and it still turned out) are merely that, guidelines. they are a trick to keep you throwing stuff out and buying new stuff.

take it from the guy who is too lazy sometimes to stick a teevee dinner back in the microwave and will eat semi-frozen parts. never got sick.

oh, and i routinely drink milk that is more than a week past the date.

if it smells, throw it out.

3. That date is
really more of a guideline. With meat especially the test is smell and feel. If it stinks and feels slimy, run it under some warm water then smell it again. If it still stinks and feels slimy, get rid of it.
If not, cook and eat! :)
I was a restaurant cook for several years. You should be fine.

4. Give Some To Someone Else First
if they are okay, then don't worry

if not, then don't eat it

(I have no idea but others here do. I'd go by the smell)

9. Hey Bicentbaby!
:hi: ;)

Food tasters have gotten a bad rap I think over time.

They should get paid more.

;) Then again ours has an iron stomach. Sometimes I think she's a goat rather than a dog. I am constantly chasing her around the house saying "leave it," or "drop it." She's always trying to eat something she's not supposed to and its not because she doesn't get fed enough. The vet said I feed her a little too much.

11. Our German Shepherd Nasha LOVED 'cat crunchies'.
YUCK!
:puke:
We finally had to put the litter box in the garage with a small cat door.

12. Yes, someone does know.
Yes, you could still make it for dinner.

I think a great many things.

And yes, it is safe to eat. I'd just really make sure it came up to temperature, just to be safe, but it's good, really, for another day or two. Expiration dates are always a little earlier than they need to be.
