3. Oh. Hell. No.
Not when the customer can't be bothered to read store policies, thinks they shouldn't apply to them anyhow, wants service at faster-than-light speed and expects impossible-to-find product right. fucking. now.

But the nice people, the ones who aren't in a hurry and make nice conversation? You do everything you reasonably can to make them happy.

4. Anybody who's worked retail or food service....
Will tell you without hesitation that this is bullshit of the highest order. The customer deserves to be treated with respect and given the benefit of the doubt, as do all people, but.... sometimes, they're just assholes, like all people. :)

because they spent 80% of their time dealing with one particularly gifted fuckwit in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

No, I'm not bitter.

11. Well, I Recognize That Sentiment
since the hospital I work at is following the trend that Medicare is going to, where they investigate EVERY complaint made. I work on a psych unit. We have some pretty bizarre complaints. I find it a little humorous that they all have to be investigated. It is also a pain in the ass to have some risk manager asking me what we discussed in group therapy on such and such a day. (Look at the documentation I've slept since then)

So, I agree there is a problem of taking that too far. I also think that if one doesn't respond to complaints, there will be more problems. When I'm the customer especially.

:hi:

"We are investigating the claim by W.E. that his gallon of milk was poisoned."

"You mean, W.E., the paranoid schizophrenic? He think this milk is poisoned?"

"Yes."

"OK. Take it away."

21. Not really. By caving into jackasses, you alienate others.
I don't want to shop at places that allow employees to be treated poorly.

And I also don't want to wait while misguided employees kiss up to "customers" that deserve to be firmly (but politely) told to move on.

Working in food service makes you want to murder about 80% of the population.

Which is most of the time.

Thanks you.

18. When I worked in fast food
Some customers were just horrible, perhaps abusive.
One frequent horrible customer made a comment periodically "I'm never coming back here again."
One of the older women replied "Do you promise this time?"
Unfortunatly, the customer came back after a week to torment us some more.

19. I used to work for a snotty Italian boutique
No returns, no exchanges.

When people became confrontational, we would ask them to speak to our super snobby manager. He would always say, "This isn't Payless. Go buy some Chinese made shoes and return them there."
