I'm a Texan who's only been up here since 1995 (due to hubby's job), and by gawd, the snow is what I live for! I'm pretty sure I'm the only Michigan-dweller who actually feels ripped off if she doesn't get walloped with snow for 6 months of the year. I have felt totally deprived this year, so I'm really looking forward to tonight and tomorrow. No, I don't mind shoveling and snowblowing. Really. When I left Texas, I swore I'd never be hot again as long as I lived, and my dream has come true.

By the way, another Michigan thing I love: paczki day! Also I have fallen in love with Michigan lefts (left turns). And the way the roads are all laid out in a grid. And trying to pass on Canadian pennies without being caught. Those are just for starters... I really love it up here!

6. No..you are not alone....

after moving to florida after living in NJ for most of my life, I was drawn by the constant warmth and palm trees....

After eight years of the same ol same ol, I decided that I was going to move somewhere that was going to be cold. So when I was accepted to both Michigan State and Arizona for my PhD, I chose MSU!!

I havent looked back since! I smile when the snow is coming down....loved waking up the past two christmases with snow on the ground....

I also feel ripped off if I don't get a ton of smow on the ground....the last two winters have been kinda poor for snow fall....

8. Hey, fellow winter lover!

I lived in Florida for 7 years, it's great if you like ONE SEASON for an entire year. And if you like to mow your lawn twice a week, all year long. And pull weeds every day. And arachnophobes like me just love how those great big banana spiders live there all year long... at least up here in Michigan, spiders die during the winter and it gives me a chance to get rid of the egg sacs... yuck! Also Florida is wonderful if you have a long-haired cat, because fleas the size of watermelon seeds will cling to her all year long and you will spend a fortune on shampoos and vet visits, but it will be a battle you cannot win. Oh, joy! I'm sorry, I'm just not a Florida person, I am not crazy about all that sand in my house, crotch, etc. I do miss Texas for a whole lot of personal reasons, but I'm soooo happy to live in the Snow Belt!

And did I mention that we have a kick-ass governor up here?!?

Mackinac Island, for the smell of sh*t and fudge together (The Grand Hotel, if you can afford it).
The Detroit Institute of Arts, one of the nation's best - really!
Frankenmuth, for chicken dinners and the world's largest Christmas store (Bronner's)
Tahquamenon Falls, in the UP
Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village (I also really, really like Crossroads Village in Flint - wonderful restored turn of the century town).
Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes
Petoskey, for shopping in the Gaslight District
Saugatuck, on Lake Michigan, more wonderful shopping
Leelanau and Old Mission peninsulas, fabulous scenery, shopping, water sports, golf and wineries
Greektown in Detroit, but isn't the same since the casinos took over.
Keewenaw Peninsula, UP - You want snow??? You can't HANDLE this snow.

4. it`s supposed to snow here in

northern il tonight and tomorrow anywhere from 3-8 inches. so by the time it travels across the lake you guys in michigan should have a whole alot of snow. it`s wetter than hell and 30 degrees here but no snow-yet.good luck!!

17. No, not lake effect - it's coming from the south & west,

meeting northern winds and bitter cold air, right on top of us. It will now officially be winter in Michigan! They're telling us here in mid-Michigan to expect 6 to 12 inches!! It's about time! Yippee!!

Lived in Michigan for 22 years. Now I live in Virginia, and I'm happy as a clam if we have a green Christmas like this year. Although when it does snow here, I just can't believe how poorly native Virginians drive in the snow. :)

Can you do me a favor and steer it my way? Central Virginia is what you would be aiming for. Also, you're gonna need to give it a full head of steam, to make it over the mountains without it dumping all that precious snow there. (they got enough already).
