2. because it would've been too costly

4. Oh come on, in 1983 they made cars that talked!
Of course, would William Daniels provide the voice saying "Don't touch me!"? :D He's got the perfect voice...

7. Multiple versions, I like that for two reasons:
1. it gives people a choice.

2. Much as Steve Jobs made different "flavors" of the original iMac (such a s'blueberry' and 'lime' and the other shameless patronizing), cajoling the sheeple to buy them all :eyes:, the corporate hooligan behind the monitors will convince people to buy them all... or at least get modular voice cartridges...

3. That's normal
You shouldn't touch it, especially with enough pressure to cause the rippling effect. The screen is made of liquid crystal in a plasma base, though I am not well versed on the subject because I prefer glass CRTs - they give a sharper image despite their drawbacks (power consumption and size - though I'm a size queen so I don't care! )

And please don't use alcohol-based products to clean the screen either - there's specially made stuff for those LCD monitors and it's not a marketing gimmick, believe it or not!

Ever press down on a calculator screen? You'll get the same groovy rippling effect. Well, a similar one anyway.
