Have you ever tried to write an email....
..and, right in the middle of composing it

someone interrupts your train of thought...

(Let me just show you what I bought.) ...

And you don't notice, until after you've sent the e-mail,

that you look like a blithering idiot---

because there's a blaring typo... including

very poor grammar? grrr...

I swear, sometimes I can't get anything right.

I am, officially, an idiot.

*sigh*

1. Or you are having a conversation with someone and
out of the corner of your eye, you see something that catches your attention and you totally go blank about what you were talking about!

I hate it when that happens!

5. Worst case scenario
you were half way through typing a sentence when you get interrupted. When you resume, you have forgotten exactly what the sentence was, and think you were saying something different. You don't bother to reread what you wrote, and consequently you send something that is completely nonsensical.

:hi:

7. I subscribe to the "make a mess" then revise school of writing
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 11:24 AM by Strawman
My first draft writing is always very messy, and then I revise. Around here, I often jump the gun on submitting posts then realize that I've made mistakes (esp. typos and grammatical errors) that probably make me look like a moron. Then I'll go back and edit. I know to some bloggers that's a no-no, but as long as they're not fundamental changes to arguments, I think it's fine to edit posts to clarify or to correct spelling and/or grammar. I'm constantly editing.

But yeah, when one sends a business email prematurely that cannot be recalled quickly enough, that sucks. Everyone does it though, so I don't judge too harshly when I get one. I've done it.

9. I always write too many words
If I am writing anything that I care about, I write it and then go through it with a fine toothcomb, looking for ways I can reduce the number of words while expressing the same meaning.

Perfection is achieved when no more words can be removed. :D

10. I just wish I didn't do it so often.
And, I do know what you mean about liking to post first, and then go back and edit. I like to do that also. But, it does bug me to see the read letters showing the time I edited something....something about red...must be all those scribbles from my teachers when I was in school. :-(

13. The last thing I put in an email
is the to line (the address to which I am sending it.) I make mine as short and to the point as possible. Spell check, reread and when its ready to launch I fill in the address. This is also a good practice for things you put in the draft box so you don't accidently send something you have rethought.
