Any Linux tech out their who can answer some questions about a DNS?
I am trying to set one up, and wish to confirm what I am doing before I do it.

3. Thanks
I am using Plesk on an Apache server.

I want to set up a domain so that I can host the web site, run email, ftp.

I am reading through the docs, but at times it is not terribly helpful

I have a shared IP available and two dedicated IPs. If I understand correctly I have to use the two dedicated for the name servers. In this case: ns1.toonforge.com, ns2.toonforge.com

Is this correct?

4. Yes ..
sounds correct. I'd RTFM just to make sure though.

5. I am trying, but
this particular manual isn't terribly helpful.

so I need two NS records (using the dedicated IPs), an A record (using the shared IP) and an MX record (also using the shared IP)?

6. Yes ...
it's been a while since I've done DNS, so I'm doing it blind here.

7. Then I have to point the domain record
with my registrar at the two NS addresses?

9. Actually, I read that page and am confused
ADD A: Records
ns1.mynameserver.com (first IP)
ns2.mynameserver.com (second IP)

ADD NS: Records:
mynameserver.com ns1.mynameserver.com
mynameserver.com ns2.mynameserver.com

OK, so far som good. Makes sense.

THEN it says right underneath:

DELETE the A and NS records for ns.mynameserver.com, they're not used.

HUH?

I just created them, now I delete them?

10. You delete the ns.mynameserver.com records ...
because you created the ns1.mynameserver.com and ns2.mynameserver.com records.

12. No problem man ....
been a while for me too. When you create the new records, you delete any records that were there previously. Good luck :hi:.
