Move to the Northwest?
Hi, everyone. You have all been kind to me in the past. You have really helped me out.

So, here is my question, Is it going to cost me an arm and a leg to move to the Northwest?

I have mostly, in my adult life, lived in New Mexico. I LOVE New Mexico. But just now I have some real reportable income. We pay taxes here, of course, but I really would like to know if there is any such thing as cheap rent etc. up there.

We folk out West dream about fish. We really do.

Any ideas?

3. Thanks, Suich
I could do well in the big city.

Believe it or not I am really pretty good at art and antiques. :)

2. Depends where...Seattle and Portland can be $$$
But nothing like California (where I reside)

Food and gas are cheaper in both places - sales tax is nonexistant in Oregon, State Income tax nonexistant in Washington.

Homes are expensive in Seattle, Portland less so, but still high.

Other places in the Willamette Valley (Salem, Eugene, Corvallis, Albany, Springfield) are really nice, fairly progressive inexpensive and near colleges.

4. There's the rub...
I keep thinking it would just be expensive as hell to live up there.

6. State Income tax nonexistant in Washington.
OK, that helps a lot. Thanks a million. :)

5. No.
It would if you move to nice neighborhoods in Seattle and Portland. But most is quite reasonable.
