Where to Find a Retired Part-Time Super? |
|
My girlfriend has several rental houses in Baltimore (some split into rooms) and spends a lot of time on maintenance. I have been encouraging her to offer a basement apartment free in return for a certain number of hours of maintenance and other work such as showing rooms to prospects. It's not enough for a full-time employee, but I think it would be ideal for a single retired person who could use a free room and wants to stay active.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what organizations she might contact to find such a person? I think that an organization or maybe a church group would be a better source than just putting an ad in the paper.

might be a place to start. People who go to them are alert and mobile, and if they don't want the job, they may know someone who does.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I'm only dimly aware of those institutions. How can I find one -- do they tend to be run by local governments?

they are run by a development district--I think it is related to the government through that. If you look up Senior Services or your Area Agency on Aging (in our phone book, these are listed in the pages in the front of the book), they can usually direct you to your local senior center. Another place that could tell you where the closest center is would be your local library.
