My daughter has moved back in with us for a while, with cat and dog in tow.
Her cat is a treasure, very laid back and our 4 cats tolerate him quite well; for them exceptionally well in fact. Normally a visitor cat should fear for its life with these guys. But this cat just ignores them and they pretty much do the same
Dog however is cordially hated. He is about 10 months old, 65 pounds of boiling puppy energy and he thinks all cats should want to play with him because his cat does. My four think differently, which he does not understand.
We have two rooms upstairs and a door to close off the stairwell. The 4 have retreated up there, lock stock and kitty box. When the dog and my daughter lock themselves into her bedroom at bedtime, we open the door and the boys come down and get in bed with me, and run back upstairs in the morning. They don't get to go outdoors any more because we don't want her cat going out so they aren't getting as much exercise as they once did. It is cooler up there though not harmfully so thus they are growing winter coats which they normally don't do.
This too will pass. Hopefully the dog will eventually get over the excitement of seeing them, thus won't want to chase them as much and they will not run in stark fear, which just makes him chase more.
I go upstairs and pet them and feed them and empty their kitty box, last night we were all hanging out in the stairwell with the prisoners.
