Spoiled rich girls crack me up...
So I was downtown picking up my outfit for my company party tonight (50 bucks including gloves, a neacklace, a handbag, and a Martha Stewart wig!) and I ducked into Santa Barbara Outfitters to see if they had anything I *had* to have. I wandered over to the sleeping bag area, and there was a couple standing there talking to the clerk. The male half of the couple was looking at a 10 degree down sleeping bag and the clerk was telling him that 10 degrees might be a little warm for most of southern California. Then the female half of the couple takes a look at the tag: $400. She RECOILS, and says "That costs more than my Coach bag!" She then drags her SO out of the store.

3. Clearly.
I mean, she will get SEASONS of wear out of a 1996 Coach bag, while he's just going to spend the next decade toasty warm in spring, summer, *and* fall camping on the north slope of the Brooks Range.

4. How about equal time for a spoiled rich boy story?
I have one...

A young woman who is a former student of my daughter's high school said she overheard this conversation between two boys:

"Oh man, I totalled my car last weekend!"
"What did your dad say? What are you gonna do?"
"Well, my dad already bought me a new Mustang, but now he's making me pay for my own gas!!!

:nopity:

7. Oh, I know!
I've asked my daughter to compile the outrageous comments she has overheard from her rich kid classmates.

My favorite so far:

My daughter has mentioned that she is surrounded by a bunch of girls from privileged backgrounds in a couple of her classes, who gossip about whichever of their friends isn't there that day. One of them even makes a point of flashing her wad of hundred dollars bills (how tacky is that!). When my daughter made a statement about the war in Iraq during one of her classes, one of these girls said, "Ohhh. Is there still a war going on?" They don't care. No one is their neighborhood is going to end up in Iraq.

10. That stuff seriously happens
My step-brother got his first car given to him by one of his relatives, wasn't much worth about a grand. He destroys after about 2 months, He says to me "I put 300 dollars into that car." I answer "what you have to replace on it?" he replies, "I had to buy gas and there's no way now of getting my money back!"

8. You know, I'm a 19 year old girl...
and I didn't know what a Coach purse/bag was until my senior year of high school. I don't do the fashion thing; if I had $400 to blow, I'd probably buy music and DVDs.

15. I have a winter camping bag
I forget how much it cost. Even though it is rated like that, I have found that it makes me about the right temperature when it is in the 50's. I use it everytime I camp. If it is warm, I open it up and stick my limbs out.
With the couple, she might be just the jealous type. Unfortunately my half sister is like this, whining that a classmate or cousin got something more expensive than her. This can happen at all income levels, but probably richer parents put up with it more than poorer parents who cannot afford to buy anything more expensive.

16. I have a North Face sleeping bag I bought in
the early 90s...it cost $250 at the time but it will last many, many years. It has acted as my only blanket at times. I love it!! Sometimes if you spend more on a product you do get better quality. I swear by North Face! That sleeping bag smooshes very well and doesn't take up much room when smooshed.
