This computer virus is pissing me off.
I've got Windows XP, and AVG for security.

Now I've got some damn virus called "Exploit". And AVG won't let me delete it!

Tell me again how great computers are...?

2. AVG is free, but I prefer Trend PC-Cillin.
AVG gets updated once every other day. With Trend, it's twice a day.

Does AVG include a firewall? (I wouldn't trust XP's...)

3. I have no idea. I'm computer illiterate. I just do what the
computer geek guys tell me to do when I have a problem.

And they all suggest entirely different things.

And they all maintain that each of them is correct and all the other geeks are entirely wrong.

:yoiks:

So yeah, I'm getting frustrated. Can I just have a computer that works? Please?

4. For a computer, use one for your needs.
One platform may be better in one area but you may not find the apps for it.

I used to be an OS advocate. But like everything else life doesn't work that way.

5. If you can still do things, obviously you can
I would suggest going and downloading a trial of something like Norton, Ad-Aware, Webroot SpySweeper, etc. and run it to take it off. I'm assuming you can because you're posting on DU. If not, well, good luck. You can always take it somewhere like the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Once I had this really nasty virus that wouldn't go away, and actually shut down my virus protection programs. I took it to Geek Squad and they erased my computer completely and reinstalled everything. However, ever since then, my Windows has been a piece of shit and my computer randomly crashes.

6. I MAY have the solution...
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 01:39 AM by lildreamer316
(I'm trying to remember how I got rid of it. Give me a min.and hopefully it will come to me.)

Ok. make sure you have cleaned out your temporary internet folders and your cookies.
Also; make sure you have updated XP. (Sidenote; DO NOT install Explorer 7.0 NO MATTER WHAT. All other updates are ok. Just make sure you are using the manual update option and not the automatic one).
Then run AVG again and see if it picks it up.
It isn't actually a virus per se; it was a way to point out a vunerability in the Windows software.

7. Try the free Panda antivirus online scan
It MIGHT be able to get it.
Evidently, they have some different method of screening and ridding your computer of virii.

Good Luck!
