Trying to hobble an old car along - I have a question

My 1994 Accord seems to believe that just because we occasionally drive up to the bank to use the ATM that I have money. No amount of arguing or convincing has worked.

After the transmission was replaced in August, the stereo blew. Literally. High-pitched squeal and before I got it shut off, the speaker in the driver's door popped and a puff of smoke was seen.

But, that's the least of it. I found the shop manual online and took the door panel off to get the speaker out (don't ask, the manual neglected to say how to get the speaker cover off and after nearly two hours, I just took the panel off.

The problem is, when I put the panel back on, the window was down. It took 3 people to get the window to go up. Now, if it's lowered, there is no guarantee it will go back up without several hands pulling it.

Can I shoot some WD40 or anything else between the end edges of the window and the door (down in)? Would that even help?

I'm tired of opening my door to go through the drive-through at the bank and all. The other 3 windows work fine, btw.

1. Is the window motor working fine?

When you hit the button does the motor try to move the window?

Edit - if so, take the panel off, but leave all the electrical connected and check the operation of the window. If the window works, then possibly when you resintalled the panel, something got pinched.

there seems to be a point where the window slips or tilts a bit. I'm afraid that the easy way is not going to be an option for me.

a friend came back from a business trip very sick. She got a upper respiratory thing and the woman she travelled with got that intestinal virus. :scared:

She needs some things from the store.

4. Hmm...is the window seated properly in its track?

I guess my advice is really to pop the panel off and observe where the problem is. I think that's the only way to figure out what the deal is.

8. It seems to be to a point

then it slips about 1/2 way down.

5. Is it a power window?

There was some sort of design defect on those.

When it was really cold out it would drop out of it's track.

I had to fix my former girl friend's dozens of times.

6. Okay, after re-reading the post here's my advice...

I'm thinking your car window has the same problem as my ex's...

The design defect was that the window is cut in the wrong shape for
the frame tracks. It doesn't show up right away when the car is new.
It only shows up after a few years when the rubber and other sealing
materials have crushed down.

Take the panel and gear off of the door and put it back on with the window
in the up position. WD40 won't help. The window is off it's track in the front.
There should be a couple of bolts which adjust how the track in the lower door
aligns. If you get really courageous you can try to readjust those.

It would help if you reconnected the window switch and run the window up and down
a few times with the panel off to get a feel for how it works.

It took 3 people to put that door panel back on. I don't think it's something I can do alone.

I'll hobble it until spring when I can afford to have someone take it apart.

I was hoping that maybe one side was sticking and the other wasn't, causing the slipping on one side.
