Someone mentioned that they would like the first few lines of a post to appear when the cursor is held over the post headline. Cooliris Previews won't quite do that, but it will provide a quick pop-up window of any link without requiring opening another window or tab. Just move the cursor onto the blue icon that will appear next to any link, then click on the red 'X' to close the window, or just move the mouse away from the window. Works great for previewing news articles, as well.

• Simply mouse over the Cooliris link icon, and a preview window will instantly appear to show you the underlying content. No more clicking back and both, or leaving your current page.

• To email a link instantly, just right-click on any web page.

• Right-click on any phrase to have Cooliris automatically do a subsearch in Google, Wikipedia, or a dictionary.

• Customize how and when you want the preview window to appear.

1. A word to the wise
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 12:11 PM by Lex
I downloaded Cooliris once and it was an unmitigated disaster.

Unless they've changed it, that program works by opening up every link on a page you load and keeps it loaded in the background until you run your curser over it.

I loaded Cooliris while I was a Mod here and I inadvertently performed all kinds of Mod functions because links were essentially being clicked as I opened pages. Elad had to be called in to figure things out because I had no idea what was going on.

Also, Cooliris put people in my Buddy list and on my Ignore list and all kinds of things I didn't mean to do.

3. I think if you uncheck "prefetch websites" in your options that should help
but I make no guarantees!

4. Hah! The only time I've ever put anyone on ignore, at any discussion board
was when I noticed a post here at DU (by someone I'd never taken particular note of) was "ignored".

I finally figured out that cooliris was the cause of it.

I'm not sure if I like it or not. In theory, it seems kinda cool... but in practice, it's rather irritating to me. With a fast connection and tabs, I can pretty much just open what I want to open anyway, w/o losing my place or it taking too much time.

5. I remember that episode.
It was pretty ugly - this is one extension mods or potential mods should avoid.
