15. Incredible number of mistakes by the Chargers

Simple dropped interception on the first series. Many big drops by the wide receivers. Multiple personal fouls. Gates running out of bounds with at least 10 yards available upfield. An interception then a strip on 4th down, fumbling the ball right back to the Patriots to set up the equalizing touchdown. Fielding a kickoff when it was headed out of bounds. Calling for an officials challenge when there obviously was nothing to challenge.

I won a first half bet on the Chargers and am rooting for them, but damn it's hard to get enthused about a team making so many ridiculous errors.

44. The Chargers really self-destructed in the second half

Yes they made mistakes in the first half too, but what happened in the second half was terrible (from the Chargers point of view). The fumbled punt and that personal foul with the Chargers guy head butting the Pats guy were inexcusable. Some of their errors were forced by good play by the Pats, but today, the Chargers had it won and gave it away.

31. More stupidity by the Chargers

Gates runs out of bounds earlier with no one near him, then with no time outs he stops on a dime and stays in the middle of the field. Prior to that play, the receiver lines up on the wrong side and it takes 15 seconds for them to reset and get the play off.

Schottenheimer got cute and wasted that time out with an 8 point lead to challenge a play that wasn't even close. That time out might have bene vital down the stretch, either on offense or defense.

No sympathy from me to the Chargers. They blew this game. Bigtime.

New England certainly masters the 3-point playoff win.
