I wasn't able to until after I married Mari. I think I must have been 47 before she taught me how to overcome my "vapor lock." At age fifty, all pipes, north and south, seem to have been liberated of restraint ... which isn't always a good thing.

What's with these radio addresses, anyway? I've never listened to one for more than half-a-minute. It's all too reminiscent of --and different from--bygone wartime presidents who really had important information to share with the people.

Does he imagine in his mind's eye that families are gathered around the Motorola just waiting to hear from him?
