Random thoughts on River Phoenix
Ok, this is strange...
I had the hugest crush on River Phoenix when he was alive...
After he died, of course, I was sad along with everyone else...
And then life goes on...

But aabout 2 weeks ago, I started thinking about him again, I have no idea why...
I've bought all of his movies from amazon and watched them, and found his old music (interesting stuff) on myspace:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=68788035

and listened repeatedly...

AAnd, I've been thinking about him ever since...
Its a completely different perspective, when he died, I thought 23 was so old (I was 17 at the time)...now I think it is so young...I dont know...
What is going on?
Have you ever had anything like that happen...I just dont know what is going on, but wow, was he ever gorgeous and talented!

Miss you river...

1. The biography channel is running a series called:
"Final 24" that documents the final day in the life of various celebrities. Last week's was River Phoenix; it was a very interesting mini-biography of River, together with a look at the factors underlying his overdose. Told me a lot of things I never knew about his life. They might rerun it soon if you're interested.

2. Yea, I saw it over the internet during my 2 week obsession...the Canadian version I think...
They did a good job with it, but it was incredibly depressing...just plain sad...

I ordered the A&E Biography last week, but I haven't gotten it yet...

It's weird, if you watch his movies going forward...from Stand BY Me to The Thing Called Love...you see after My Own Private Idaho that something went wrong...by The Thing Called Love, he was out there, obviously on drugs of some kind...

My favorites are Dogfight and Running on Empty...I dont think that any other actor could do those roles justice...

And he was so eco-conscious, before it was popular to be so...and he said in a later interview that he loved Al Gore:)

3. It seemed like the pressures on such a young man were enormous.
If the Final 24 show had it right, River was supporting quite a little entourage of family and friends, all of whom appeared happy to ride the gravy train as far as it would go.

I don't think many people, of any age, could carry that kind of baggage for very long without buckling under the weight. He was made to grow up too quickly and didn't have any stable influences in his life. It's a terrible shame and a terrible waste.

5. I think his family in general were just overly generous...
they had never had money before, so once they got it (through River)...they wanted to share it with as many people as possible...and the other people took advantage of that for sure...

Yea, terrible...

4. Just re-read The Body by Stephen King the other night ironically....
...and of course couldn't not think of him from the movie Stand By Me as I read it again...may he rest in peace.

6. I go through phases like this
I think I have a strange fetish for dead celebrities, especially young, troubled, beautiful and talented young men like River, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison...
