My neighbor's kid was ordered to Iraq, she is in tears.

She told me yesterday, he won't even get a chance to come home on leave before he goes.

I am so glad I never had kids.

He is in the Air Force, no real combat training.

Getting ready for Iran I guess.

1. Statistically safe ...
It'll seem like a long absence, but Air Force postings are "usually" safer than Army or Marines. The military likes to keep the valuable assets out of harm's way (the airplanes are valuable, not the people :) ). Traditionally, Air Force has had better food, too. But with food service by McHalliburton's, who knows.

All this talk of safety in the Air Force is B.S. if his job puts him in the air, of course. Pilots, loadmasters, gunners, all high risk.

Best of luck to him.
